Problems with JRiver Remote contol on Iphone.
« on: August 09, 2023, 08:26:23 am »

I can't access the remote control on my iphone.

I get the screen that asks me to wake up my device. but then nothing happens.

I get the error " Cannot connect to "device name" ".

When I try to add the device again using the access key, I get

Connecting to ip192.168......etc etc port 5219

Timed Out.

I am using MC 28 on all my devices and the  same thing happens on ALL my devices, a PC, a laptop and a Mac.

Many thanks for your help.

Something may be blocking discovery.  SSDP uses port 1900.

Any network changes recently?

Try power cycling everything.

From Media Center, go to Tools->Options->Media Network.

Click on "Access key", and then select "Test Connection From This Server".

See if successful or not.

Then check the usual things:

Windows Firewall (if you use it)
Router settings for port mapping
Credentials if you require Auth in Media Center

Ok, I tried the "test connection to this server"  and I got the windows firewall blocking.  So I allowed it via windows firewall.

I even deleted the connection and set up new connection and I get the same timed out error.

This has worked previously so I can't see what has happened that means it does not work.

How do I even delete all the connections in the app?

What do you get with the test now?

If you have an Android phone, you can try Bingo SSDP, our app.

Port should be 52199, not 5219. Is that a typo in your post or do you have the wrong port number set?

I get the same error as before.

I am using port 52199.

When I try to add a new server as I now have a new access key, I get timed out could not connect to server.

I do not have an Android.  I have an iPhone, as stated in the title.

Port forwarding is normally only needed for accesss from outside your LAN.

It seems like a firewall is blocking.

Check the router and access point.

Are you running any non Microsoft security software?

Ok, I don't need port forwarding as all this is within my LAN.

Ok, it might be the firewall.

How do I check the router access point?  As I said, this has worked before fine and I had no issues. I have not made any changes.

I am using ESET security as the AV and Firewall, these are non MS security software.

Uninstall ESET.  That's probably the problem.

Sorry, but I would rather not!!!!

Esset has been my AV Firewall and security for the last 20 years!!!

What has JRiver or Esset done in the last few weeks that has caused this?  As I said, the remote worked fine for years until a few weeks ago. On ALL Machines.

In any case, Esset is NOT installed on my Mac and I have the same issue there. So I dont think that Esset is the issue.

Infact, even with Esset Paused I STILL have the same issue.

So it sounds as though the issue is MC NOT  Esset.

You can't reliably suspend antivirus software.

This is a problem ESET shared recently:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,136712.0.html

I'm not certain that ESET is the problem, but uninstalling it is the only way to be sure.

Windows Defender alone is our recommendation now.

JimH, I'm getting the same issue on my MacBook Pro and I do NOT have Eset installed on that.

So you can understand my reluctance uninstall Eset, a piece of software that I have used for over 20 years.  And JRemote worked fine, up until a few weeks ago.

thanks

iPhone can not connect, with JRemote, to MC on windows.  Same iPhone also can not connect to MC on Mac?  If that's correct, it sounds like the iPhone is probably on a different network.

Check your IP address on the Windows or Mac machine and note the network (192.168.1.X for example).

Then check the network on the iPhone and see if it matches.  Make sure Wifi is enabled on the iPhone.  It's easy to turn off various things on the iPhone from the swipe down "control center".

If that does not work, try to give us some more info.

Best of luck to you.
Brian.

What more info do you need Brian?

The Iphone and Mac and all the machines are all on the same LAN network.

As I have said several times now, this worked fine up until a few weeks ago, on all machines.

Not sure what has happened to cause this.

I deleted all the connections to the remote and tried to add as a new server with a new access code.

Again the same issue. It is failing to connect.

I get the messages

finding computer addresses assiciated with access key...
Response received
found 2 addresses
connecting to IP 198.168.0.18
port 52199

Timed Out

connecting to ip5f5.....
germany.de
port 52199

Could not connect (Could not connect to server)

try iNetTools on your iphone/ipad.  haven't used it in a while, but there's a free and pro version.

it might help you identify issues on your LAN.

Unplug all the devices, including your network devices.  Then plug them  back in.

Did you check the IP addresses as I suggested above?  That's the first thing I'd want to see.  I suspect your iPhone is not on the same IP network as your wired computers.

Also, you can simply use a browser on your iPhone to test to that IP address as Brian said.

http://198.168.0.18:52199

(note NOT https)

If that doesn't give you the Panel prompt your windows firewall or security software is blocking the connection.
Note that windows has 2 separate firewalls depending on whether your connection is labeled as Private or Public.
You will have to check both to make sure the one your PC is using is the one you expect to be connected and that it matches the allowed Apps (MC) or port (52199)
