Stability Problem
« on: September 21, 2023, 05:05:18 am »

I used to be a VERY big fan of MediaCenter given its abilities to manage classical music until it started to become very unstable.

Yes, I am managing a bigger collection of classical music with MediaCenter. Meaning, I am also leveraging custom fields, sometimes using French accents (é, è, ê) or German Umlaute (ä, ü, ö) but ...

Just marking/selecting a few movements to tag common fields like Album, Composer, Opus is enough for MediaCenter to break.

Full version of MC?

The two main causes of such problems are:
Antivirus
and
Drivers

What antivirus software are you running?

Did you try updating MC?

Thanks for you prompt reply!

"Full Version of MC"
Is there something else than a full version of JRiver MC? I simply checked "Help" --> "Registration Information" stating "JRiver Media Center 30 30.0.96"

"Antivirus"
I am not using a specific antivirus other than the onboard Windows Security (Windows 11 Pro, Version 22H2). My Windows is kept up-to-date.

"Drivers"
No clue why drivers should cause JRiver to continuously crash. If so then why is only JRiver so sensitive to drivers? There is no other software crashing on my system.

"Updating MC"
Neither updating, nor upgrading MC ever helped in the past. And yes, I tries to update before starting the threat.

You're using MC 30.0.96.  I'll move this to that board.

Did you configure Windows Defender?  There's a thread here.

Any other security software?

Yes, a driver problem can be specific to an application that triggers the circumstances that show the problem.

Are your files on internal drives?  Or on USB or NAS drives?

You could try MC31 to see if you get a different behavior.

No, Defender was not configured and there is no other security software on my machine. I will search for that Defender config threat you mentioned.
All data is sourced from a single internal SSD drive.
Honestly, I lost confidence in JRiver MC upgrades solving this stability problem. Unless it is specifically mentioned in the release notes that the cause for the instability was identified and removed I do not intent to upgrade again. If it is simply a config of the Defender, then happy to upgrade.
