JRiver convolver does not react to channel delay
« on: October 28, 2023, 07:34:44 am »

Hello,

Been testing rephase /rew/ jriver active speaker setup, fir filters etc.

I got everything else working, but the convolver jriver file does not react to channel delay

So i have dip at the crossover, phase issue, nulls,  while trying to delay the tweeter , it does not react. The drivers themselves, the response is within 1db in their frequency response.

Its understandable that the drivers are out of phase naturally, compression driver with horn mated with 10" woofer, voice coils are far away from each other.

In the attachment there is two files, in the other one, tweeter should be delayed 50ms,yes overreaction, but i get excatly the same frequency response between 0ms and 50ms while measuring with Rew.

That cant be

Where is the fault?

Thanks in advance!

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Convolution#Cfg_File_Format_Features
Delays aren't supported

Use peq delay or move the impulse to the right by the correct no of samples

The link provided mentions that "input delays" are not supported, silly question: isnt the delay in the convolver file "output delay"?

I have tried the peq delay, that doesnt change the measurement either, excatly the same

I should see some change anyways, for good or worse, since the phase changes

sorry you're correct, it does support output delay. I just retested and it works fine here, I can see a 50ms offset between the channels. Delay also works without an issue. It suggests that the answer to

Where is the fault?
is "in your measurement setup"

how are you verifying this?

You were right!! Rebooted the computer and now the rew measures 1db within the whole frequency response, including crossover with 8ms of delay.

My anedoichial chamber is poor mans version thou, speakers outside directed towards sky :)

Btw anybody searching for ultimate sound quality should turn off "adaptive volume". Huge difference without it
