A Four Second file plays on computer but not stereo
« on: November 06, 2023, 03:02:33 pm »

Hi

I am on version 31.0.80 (but this happens on other versions like 30).

I ripped a all files from a CD for a movie soundtrack (Curious Case of Benjamin Button) using flac conversion. Also ripped using ITunes for MP3 version. Both version play fine on Computer but playing on my Yamaha Stereo it just stops playing (like not finding an end) on one particular file. Playing on iTunes to same stereo system is fine only JRiver doesn't play it. Is there a bug where files less than 10 seconds don't work when sending to separate receiver/stereo?

There are no files this short but there are 12 second files which play fine.

Thx

What is the connection between the PC and receiver?

Hi

It's just a standard ip address that I have used for years but never had seen this before. Usually I don't have small files like this but this is a movie soundtrack. It just seems to seems to stall out. And it doesn't happen when I am playing to local computer. Also Itunes has no issue just JRiver and I tried playing both MP3 and flac versions and neither work from JRiver but ONLY on this small file.

I hope this helps

Thx

Also the playback stops at that point and doesn't go any further so I have to manually force it to go to next item.

Thx

Any update on this?

The Stereo Receiver is a Yamaha RX-V779 older but still working fine!

Thx Kurt

Sounds like a bug when playing files smaller than the pre-buffer length. Please share the MC debug log from Help -> Logging menu.

I'm guessing the connection is using DLNA.  Read this thread from here on down:

The absolute minimum for the start/stop logic to work is 6 seconds.

@Bob, that shouldn't mean that a 4s track in the middle of a playlist, playing via DLNA, won't play and causes the playlist to stop. I think that MC starts preparing the next track 5 seconds before the current one ends, so maybe that's related.
