Playing an ISO of a DVD rip
« on: January 10, 2024, 03:04:31 am »

I have a number of full-disc ISO files that I made from DVDs I own. I recently got a new computer with Windows 11 and am trying to find a way to play them.

I have found that VLC will play the ISO directly as a media file. MC 31 doesn't not.

Not only that, but even when I mount the ISO as a virtual drive, MC still won't play the DVD mounted as a virtual device. I get a black screen for a couple of seconds and that's it.

I have read the Wiki on this topic, but it's WAAAY too complicated. There's no point going through all that if it won't work anyway.

Here's the wiki page:

Try following the instructions and post here if you get stuck.

I just discovered something on Microsoft's website: In Windows 11, Windows Explorer itself can mount an ISO as a virtual drive.

You just need to set Explorer as the default program for an ISO file. Then, when you double-click, the ISO is mounted and given a drive letter.

The resulting virtual drive WILL play the DVD ISO in MC.
