Is there a way to move the JR MC program to my 8tb external drive? If I leave JR on my PC C: drive it searches ALL my drives for content and maxes out my 256 Gb drive? I have 117 Gb on my C: drive and 103 Gb on my G: drive.  The ones on my G drive are all FLAC. The other Additional 14Gb are MP3 files only on the C: drive.  I am not computer proficient. When I look at storage it says I have 221Gb of music. The rest are programs and personal files I need. Can anyone help?

You could set up auto import.  Read the topic on the wiki.

Also set File Locations in Options.

The Tool called Rename, Move, and Copy can move your files to a different location.

Tools>Options>Library & Folders>Configure auto-import

Add and remove the folders you want MC to look for your files(music) in and it won't look on your entire computer any longer.

What are the pros and cons of using an external drive for media with MC?

It's time to upgrade my computer (My 3G i5 Cpu is not supported by Windows 11 for some reason and Windows 10 will be desupported in the fall) and I'm trying to decide whether to get a 2TB SSD drive or just a 512G SSD for the OS supplemented by a 2TB drive for my audio files.

I've got almost 300G of audio and to sync it with my android player I use a "staging" folder to do the transfer from MC, then Resilio sync to move the files to the player.  This means I need twice the amount of storage or 600G now.  My  android player has 1Tb capacity so I'd like to have at least 2TB of storage.

An external drive is less expensive and will be easier to upgrade if my storage needs increase, so I'm leaning toward that.  Wondering about the downsides, if any.

Well, if you really wanted to you could bypass the CPU, TPM and secure boot restrictions for Windows 11 but I wouldn't recommend it. Your CPU is likely too old and/or it doesn't support TPM 2.0 which is required by default for Windows 11.

Windows 10 is going end-of-life in October 2025 so planning ahead with new hardware that fully supports Windows 11 is a good idea. For example you can get AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 series CPUs, which fully support Windows 11, at pretty good prices right now and they'll blow the majority of Intel CPUs, especially i3s and i5s, out of the water.

Hmmm... I hadn't considered simply changing out the processor.   Probably because "simply" is likely a misnomer.  Looking into it a bit, my processor uses Haswell architecture with Socket 1150, which means I'd need a new motherboard since any replacement cpu for that socket won't support TPM version 2.0 which is required for Windows 11. Unless I'm missing something. 


Meanwhile, thanks for correcting me about the end-of-life date for Windows 10 - I thought it was this October, but I have another year to deal with this.  I'm basically satisfied with the performance; it's only the need to upgrade the OS that is prompting me to change anything.
