Re-posting here as a new topic given advice from Awesome Donkey (This is NOT an MC Linux Installer Issue)

Complete Linux Noobie here. Recently embarked upon the Windows 10 Migration to Linux.  I have a dual-boot implementation of Linux Mint Cinnamon and successfully (I thought) installed MC 33 on Linux on 3 Nov 2024.  I installed my new MC Master License for Linux this morning (11/13/24) and began importing my audio/video files from my Windows 10 NTFS D:\DATA Drive.  The import appears to have worked flawlessly but each time I attempt to select a menu option or test play my first file, MC shuts down.

For starters, here's my inxi system summary:

Help-About works/displays latest v 33.0.33 but then the app closes again.  My only thought at this moment is to reboot and try running MC again.

20241114 - MC 33 auto-upgraded to 33.0.37 and stabilized. Tagging Problem reported as well as Play Back Problem (File Not Found).

This is going to be a fun way to re-learn Unix after nearly 40 years. 

My Auto-Import is Config'd thusly:

/media/ckwilliams/DATA/MyMusic/
/media/ckwilliams/DATA/Pictures/
/media/ckwilliams/DATA/Videos/

Play Back Problem - File NOT Found.  I suspect the Filename in Library does NOT Match the Filename on Disk and may be the difference between Windows and Linux naming conventions. 
Am I going to have to rename my Linux Library Filenames to match the device name convention, e.g. /dev/sda2 or /dev/nvme0n1p5?

What is the best/most effective & efficient method to establish a Linux media library? How would one copy media from NTFS to ext4? Or is that totally redundant and unnecessary?

I will dig into this but if an expert in Windows to Linux MC media migration will share their insight, I will be much obliged.

Your first job it appears to me is to get a stable working MC33 instance, so my advice would be to install MC33 afresh and immediately stop auto-import. Manually import a small number of files (or even just one) and make sure the MC33 isn't crashing. Once you have achieved that then move on to getting playback to work, then build up from there. Post here for more help as necessary. AD has already given you advice on how to run MC33 from the terminal to provide more information if you still experience crashes.

Thank you, terrym. I completed uninstall and re-install moments ago.  Same issue / Playback Problem.  I think I should have cleared my library prior to install or perhaps there is an install parameter or switch to insure auto-import is suppressed.  Will continue troubleshooting & testing...

Thank you, atreides.  That thread was most-enlightening.  I confirmed Platform=Linux in the jmd file.

And one (or two) more question(s)...Should I perform an Import of my individual music files rather than Import Library? Or would an incremental test of work flow functions (based on noobie experiential learning) be helpful to the community?  I don't mind a slow ascent of the Learning Curve. =;-)

MC is already installed successfully, so there's no need to rerun installJRMC. You need to launch MC from the CLI as suggested above using `mediacenter33` to see why it's crashing.

Playback Problem continues after reboot/restart.  See attached logfile.zip.

P.S. My error. File location was not updated by me so MC is looking in default location.  I corrected the user error...

P.P.S Not so fast..."mediacenter33: JRImage/PSD.cpp:1090: int CPSD::ReadImageData(): Assertion `nBytesRead == nTotalBytes' failed. Aborted (core dumped)".
See new logfile.zip. Maybe caused by not setting file types extension?

It looks like MC is crashing on: /media/ckwilliams/DATA/Pictures/Family/Malpass/Vicke M. Williams/Vickie 19_3.jpg

You can send that file to logs@jriver.com for them to look at, and then temporarily move it to some location that is not auto-imported to see if it fixes your crashes. If it crashes again you'll need to repeat the process, looking at the last file in the Previous Log.txt and removing it.

Also, it's generally not a great idea to have periods "." in your filenames or directories on Linux as sometimes this can cause unexpected issues or complications w.r.t. search, regexes, tab completion, etc.
