Channel mapping issue with multichannel playback
« on: November 29, 2024, 07:03:36 pm »

I still have the same exact problem, using an ExaSound e68 DAC, that was originally raised as follows in the MC24 board...

"5.0 channel mapping incorrect

I have an exaSound e38.  Channel mapping is incorrect while playing 5.0 DSD.   The output is one channel off starting at output 4.

It should be mapping: 1-LF, 2-RF, 3-C, (4-SW <silent>) 5-LS, 6-RS

It’s actually mapping: 1-LF, 2-RF, 3-C, 4-(LS), 5-(RS), 6-<silent>.

I checked cabling and channel assignments in the audio MIDI setup and my setup is correct."

With my library having a mix of DSD and PCM multichannel files, setting it up for one results in the other being unplayable with the correct channel outputs.  Channel mixing isn't functional for DSD files even after conversion to PCM for playback, and having separate zones via zoneswitch for each works, sort-of (with the wrong channel allocations setup for DSD playback from the DAC, and remapping channels for the PCM multichannel zone to match the incorrect DSD channel assignments), but it's a nuisance that this has never been fixed, and one which took me ages to figure out what was going on.

Will this ever be resolved, please?

What version of MC are you using?

Some changes were made in MC33 to make it easier to set up.

Thanks for your reply Jim.

I'm on MC32, so will try MC33 to see if the update helps.

Jim - moving to MC33 and setting channels to 5.1 in DSP to override all playback (without up-mixing) means that with correct physical channel connections from the DAC, multichannel 5.1 PCM is being played back correctly and DSD 5.0 is being output in a 6-channel package and now routing multichannel DSD to the correct channels.

I still can't bitstream multichannel DSD to an exaSound e68 (which does work under a "competing product" using the same exact system and setup other than the media player), and while stereo DSD bitstreams perfectly to a Cyrus Pre-XR in any DSD resolution, I can't get any DSD over DoP to work to the e68.  However, as DSD is converted to run DRC convolution for this multichannel system, this isn't a significant limitation at present.

Thanks!
