Web Media Problem - Anyone Else?
« on: January 08, 2003, 07:13:57 pm »

I posted the following under the 9.0.91 Beta thread, but I didn't want it to get lost/forgotten.  It's still a problem with 9.0.92 and I think it was there in 9,0.90.  Anyone else have a similar problem?

When trying to play a web media (i.e. CNET Radio), MC crashes with XP's message:  "Media Core has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience"

The error signature is:
AppName: media jukebox.exe  AppVer: 9.0.91.0  ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106  Offset: 0000234c

My system info is:

Could you post a link so others can try it?

The problem I get is that no matter what web stream I try to listen to it sounds like a badly encoded mp3 with many audio glitches.  It's completely unlistenable with MJ 9.0.89 so I have to use WMP9 to listen to web radio (normally I only listen to KEXP in Seattle but I've tried to listen to random different streams;  all with the same results).

Media Jukebox  9.0.89 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\

Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)
AMD Athlon 1731 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 1048 MB, Free - 513 MB

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106 / ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106 / Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1145 / wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Ripping /   Drive E:   Copy mode:ModeBurstBigBuffer   CD Type:Auto   Read speed:Max
 Drive F:   Copy mode:ModeBurstBigBuffer   CD Type:Auto   Read speed:Max

Cerebus,
Try changing the playback options "more responsive <> more skip resistant" and wave out vs directsound.

Depending on the stream type, we are probably using the same playback engine that WMP is using.

Do you have WMP9 installed?  That could be a problem, but if it's that, it will be addressed in the next week or so.

Your suggestions didn't change anything at all.  I do have WMP9 Final installed which plays streams without a problem.  Winamp 2 & 3 also play streams okay.  I'll wait for updates.

Meanwhile, it is not cool that WMP9 cannot be uninstalled.

Oh, one other thing, now, when it tries to play a WMA stream, it now says it can't find WMP 6.1 or higher and suggests I download and install it.  So regardless of the media, MC is choking.

Is WMP 9 installed?

Do you have a link to something that doesn't work so others can try it?

I"m still using version 8...  and it doesn't matter what stream I play.... they all crash.  CNET, ABC News, etc.

In any event, the CNET Radio link is http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/MPL/527.mpl
