Media Jukebox 9.0 beta 3...
« on: November 11, 2002, 12:54:23 pm »

Media Jukebox 9.0 beta 3 is available.

IMPORTANT-- This is beta software -- some things don't work, some things crash, and your database and tags may not be totally safe.

If you're sure you want to continue, you can download the preview here:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox90076.exe

Changes

1. Fixed: Several issues which prevented Media Jukebox from running on Win95, and prevented encoders and decoders from installing / functioning.
2. Fixed: Registration: should get fewer "invalid license" errors. An error code has also been added to this message to assist debugging.
3. Changed: System info listing now provides information on CD drive settings for burning and ripping.
4. Changed: Latest APE encoder now included with Media Jukebox installation.

Don't re-report bugs reported over the last few builds because we're still working on them. (but tell us if something we listed as "fixed" isn't)

Thanks for your help, support, and patience.

It appears that the links to Media Jukebox.exe are broken again in this build.  I am just reinstalling and will try again but double click on a file in Explorer was bringing up a Media Jukebox.exe cannot be found dialog :(

Adam

UPDATE: just reinstalled and it is definitely not woking.  Right click play works, right click add to playing now works, right click pen with mjextman works dbl click does not work...

Some Testing For JohnT:

First Try Same Settings, But With CD-Text Unchecked MJ Reported Something Like "Can not start the Write"

Then I [X] Checked CD-Text With the Below Settings And Audio CD Was Burned OK.

I went back to burn another CD with CD-Text Unchecked Again and MJ reported it was burning with CD-Text even when it was unchecked.

then I exited MJ, re-loaded MJ and tried the cd-text unchecked same Message "Can Not start write".

So:

Something is wrong with CD-Text being unchecked with audio cd and my drive model.

and after you check CD-Text burn and then uncheck CD-Text mj does not notice that CD-Text is unchecked.

Converting works. The tags are strange, though. The file name became the "Name" tag. i.e. Was "Close to the Edge" and the file name was 01-Yes-Close to the Edge.ape
Now name is "01-Yes-Close to the Edge". "Rename Properties From File Name" fixed it but I know that ain't the way it's supposed to be.

Yeah I got that too on a conversion.  I also got the famous "Chipmunk effect" luckily I hadn't deleted the original file!!  Tried converting a CBR to VBR and it went all alvin.  Is that a symptom of this type of conversion or is it a bug??

Just noticed going back to the problem above that I had two entries for mjextman in Open With... One produced the error, one opened the files okay.  I am guessing that it is a leftover from before the file was moved into system so I have uninstalled MJ and all reg settings and will reinstall.  I will report back if it still does not cure the problem...

Adam

UPDATE: Nope :(  Did a full uninstall and reinstall.  Still have the two icons.  One works, one does not.  However the strange thing is, if I double click a file and the error message comes up cannot find Media Jukebox if I then open MJ the file starts playing immediately...V. Strange...

1. Burn Went Fine In The Following Settings When Burning Data CD the same settings as when i tried burning an Audio cd but MJ refused.

when selecting files to go to burner and then select send to cd burner, MJ Vanished (weard)

tried like 4 more burns to data cd using other settings and all worked fine. it seems that my problem is with the CD-Text option and audio cd burns.

I guess i will need to pickup more cd's at best buy

With Use internal ASPI MJ cannot find any burners (see above sys info)  with that turned off and the MJ burning engine here is my sys info-

I have manually reassigned all MJ files to the correct entry for mjextman.exe and now the dbl click works but it begs the questions a) Why do I have two entries for this in the programs list and b) why does one of them not actually work? Also why were they not both removed when I uninstalled and reinstalled?  Very strange....

Adam

UPDATE:  Okay this gets wierder and wierder...I now have dual entries for Photo Plus my image editor as well.  This was automatically set to open JPegs when I uninstalled MJ.  After reinstalling there are now two entries one that works and one that doesn't....

The old bug of id3 tags not being read for a lot of my mp3's.
I think I've worked out what it is.

It's reading all the id3v2 tags fine but for the mp3's with only id3 v1 tags it's not reading the v1 data so it's appearing blank if they only have id3v1 tags.

Finally got rid of the duplicate mjextman entry after system restore, uninstall, reinstall and a manual repointing for all files concerned.  Dunno when this went wrong but it was a mess.  Guess it is when mjextmans location was moved.  I somehow ended up with an orphan entry to the olf ile only it was no longer there...

Still seems to be sorted out now.  If any one else has this problem let me know and I will explain mroe clearly what I had to do...

There's no longer any place in which to enter custom settings for the VBR encoder.

  • FIXED Starting a replay gain analysis the first time after MJ is started causes a download of the MP3 Plug-In.  Once downloaded analyzation if fine until MJ is restarted when it downloads the plug in again.

  • FIXED DSP Studio isn't remembering the state of the checkboxes for the components.

  • FIXED Replay gain isn't being applied during playback.  The equalizer seems to be OK though.

  • ALMOST FIXED If the internal burning engine is selected and decode directly to cd is not selected when the start button is pressed the cd burner progress dialog box comes up with only the flying paper showing and hangs there.  Have to kill MJ.

  • NEW: When "Decode directly to CD" is unchecked, MJ doesn't lock anymore but during the writing of the raw temp file, status changes as each file is written but the file progress bar only show a notch or 2 for each file.  During the write to CD, the status box stays stuck on the first file and neither file nor write progress show anything.   The burn does progress and finish however.

  • NEW: When "Decode directly to CD" is unchecked, and you burn more than 1 CD, the raw temp file is deleted and recreated for each CD instead of using the one created at the start of the first burn.

Items are being added to the "Top Hits -- 100 most played" smartlist when I have not ever listened to or played. My assumption is that using the audio analyzer tool puts tracks into the list.

None of the 4 external Firewire CD-R or DVD-R drives are detected as writers even though I can rip from them.

In the Media Scheduler, when I try to schedule a TV Recording, there aren't any channels in the drop-down list.  Am I missing a setting somewhere?

What happend to plugins?

I notice that OCX's are no longer supported, but DLL's are.

Just wondering if these are .net controls now, or whats up?

We have switched to .net development tools, but OCX's should still be supported.

Does that mean that MJ GUI could run in other PC than the MJ core ?

I cannot rip a CD.
The drive is read, YADB functions properly and finds the CD info. The following occurs in both MP3 and APE:

Got this error on Burning a "Data CD". It burned the 1st track then gave this message during the 2nd track:

Other minor bugs:

1.  On installing, checking "Create Quicklaunch" doesn't.

2.  Checking "Check for updates" finds MJ8 updates, not MJ9.

Something else.
I still have to have it set to Analog Playback to get a disk to play but that's most likely my cheap CD/RW device. What's strange and most likely MJ is that when I'm playing a track this way, "Stop" doesn't stop it, closing MJ doesn't stop it. The only thing that stops the playback is to push the eject button on the CD/RW.

Any Ideas?

Hi,

Export playlist to ASCII delimited continues to not export accurately.  When asked to export all fields, the header record shows all fields, but the detail records do not have either the 'fields visible' or all fields.

Regards.

Pick some files with MMJB info -> right click -> Tools -> Update from Tags

If the file has MMJB info, it will get detected and fields will be created in the MJ database if necessary.  Then right click on the list column header to make the new columns visible.  The info will also be in the file properties window.

We use VS.NET, but Media Jukebox is still C++.  There is no dependency on the .NET platform. (which only runs on W2K and above)  We wouldn't recommend requiring the .NET platform for your plugins yet because it'll make them available to a much smaller audience...

Alright, got one more for you ...

Here is the new info from the PROPERTIES for a file:
MJCF (MediaJukebox:TOOLNAME): Media Jukebox
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:TOOLVERSION): 9.0.65
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Replay Gain): -11.26963
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Lyrics):
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Image File): Cover Art.jpg
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Peak Level): 1.00000
 TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Solo..): Green Day
 TRCK (Track number/Position ..): 5
TBPM (BPM (beats per minute)): 128
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Notes):
 TALB (Album/Movie/Show title): Kerplunk!
 TIT2 (Title/songname/content..): Private Ale
 TCON (Content type): Blues
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Rating):
 MJCF (MediaJukebox:Intensity): 5

Notice, that there is infor for Peak Level, Intensity, & Replay Gain ... why are these values not populated  in the columns in MJ ?

From the details above it appears that the tags were created in 90065 ... Is there a huge difference between that and the latest version ??

BTW, the Image File works just fine ...

NEVERMIND .. I just answered my own question .. I wrote in a value for the INTENSITY .. and it removed all old MJCF tags and replaced them with COMM tags ...

Also, LOVE the new FORMAT Properties view with all the tag info ... LOVE IT ! ... But, how do I change the font & text color ... white text on Grey bkground is killing my eyes ..

You probably know this already but....

1. when I try and update the library to get rid of files that I 've renamed outside MJ... the whole library gets wiped and I have to reload from scratch.

2. track numbers don't seem to be loading reliably from the id3 tags. I can't work out exactly why (don't think it's related to id3v1 vs v2)

Best way to sort out track numbers is to get the files in the correct order and then choose the option to add track numbers for this sort order (Cant remember the exact command as I am at work) then save tags and this will insert the new track numbers correctly...

As for colors, change the skin.  Green Eyes looks pretty good in the format page.

I've been gone for a few days but didn't see this error anywhere.  When I try to rip and encode from either my CD or DVD drive I get...

Open Drive.  Parameter is out of range
Read track failed.  Drive is not opened.
Would you like to keep trying further tracks?

Of course your going to get a few requests, like mine ... to follow:

Why is the TIT3 tag (ID3V2 tag Title 3, Subname/Desc) not available as a displayable column in MJ ?

This brings me to the question: Why are not all ID3V2 *valid* tags available for columns in MJ ?

Just curious ... is this something that is planned ?

There is a memory leak in the analyze audio files tool. Before I left for physical therapy I queued up around 2K of files to be analyzed. About three hours later I came home to find that my Page File usage was at 1.7GBytes. Exiting MJ brought down that value to 227MBytes.

After to 'tools'/'remove tags' from a file with "image inside", MJ continues to display "image inside" in the related column even there is no more image inside the file.

Is it normal that MJ access to the disk when tracks are selected ? As a result, if you select a lot of tracks (let say thousands) MJ takes a long time without to answer, there is a lot of disk access and there is no way to stop it (except killing it).

Many 'comment' fields of my db has been "automatically" filled with the string "Media Jukebox". Is it normal ?
