This is my first release to the public, its just a start that i've wanted to share with you.

This is gonna be really sweet by the looks of it

WMP skin, RealOne Skin - is there such a thing as a Winamp skin? Its the only other real competitor I can think of

These skins are great – iTunes, WMP and now RealOne but if I were J River, I’d be a little concerned if everyone is making their product look like someone else’s, what does that say about the standard MC skins? And what about branding, wouldn’t it be better for MC to have it’s own strong brand / design?

I would say the PIXOS deign is MCs branding design. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of product emulation. Look at how many people want to use Window Blinds on Win 98 so that they can get it to look like XP...

iTunes, WMP, Real - all spend a LOT of time and effort coming up with their designs - they're all good designs so why not make them available.

And there are no standard MC 9.1 skins - PixOS is the only one which is why guys like tommy are makin new ones

People change skins for two reasons 1. They get bored with looking at the same old interface all the time 2. The existing skin is unclear or doesn’t look pretty. I don’t think 1 can apply to MC 9.1 given that it hasn’t even launched yet. So it must be 2, the WMP, RealOne & iTunes interfaces must be better than MC.

I’m not against skinning (I use the iTunes skin myself) and I think the guys who put this stuff together do a great job and I’m looking forward to trying out the MediaOne skin. I just think it’s a shame that we make MC look like inferior products (none of the above apps can touch MC in terms of functionality).

You want to sell a product in today’s market (and I’ll assume that J River do) then making it look great goes a long way. Do you think the iMac & iPod would have been as successful if they had looked like just another grey box?

Skinners: mad thanks for doing the job that I wish I could do but can't. Nice work on everything that y'all have made us this far, keep 'em coming.

But don't forget the matching mini-me and track info templates. Matched sets are the bomb.

Edit: Mad bananas to the first skinner that makes a set of matched mega, mini, hairstyle and track info all bundled into the same .mjp file. Yeah, baby!

I couldn't disagree more. It's all about asthetics. What I find to be a pleasing interface is different than what you find pleasing or what Nila would find pleasing. Some people in here like the WMP skin. I happen to love the PixOS skin. So much so that I bought the entire PixOS suite so the rest of my PC could look the same way.

It has nothing to do with being "better". It's all about taste. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

Great looking preview! One question I have is how many skins are there for 9.1? I use 9.0.180 and the Doreen's TV skin since I have a dark desktop, are there any dark skins out there for 9.1? Thanks all!

It's an entire suite of skins, icons, cursors, and other themes for programs like Windowblinds 4 (which I did finally check out), DesktopX, CursorXP etc. (all made by Stardock http://www.stardock.com ) as well as a program called Sysmetrix.

Pretty nice stuff. You can see a (censored) screenshot of my home desktop here.

Yeah, you need all those programs installed.

Windowblinds (skins Windows)
CursorXP (3D, animated, alpha blended mouse cursors)
IconPackager (changes all the system icons)
DesktopX (does many things - I use it to make sure windows don't cover up that sidebar, the dock, or go under my taskbar, as well as making my desktop icons semi-transparent)
ObjectBar (the lower half of that sidebar that has the weblinks on it)
ObjectDock (the Mac OSX like dock at the bottom)
Sysmetrix (the top half of the sidebar that has all of the meters and controls on it)

Plus there's LogonStudio which changes your XP logon screen.

I actually haven't had any problems running it like that. I'd had a lot of problems with earlier versions, but after the recommendations of somebody here on Interact, I gave it another try. So far, I like it.

I'm not sure if you can make it out, but you can see that Sysmetrix is reporting my uptime as over 4 days in that screenshot. I had to reboot after installing DesktopX and haven't rebooted since. Believe me, if the system starts to feel unstable, all the pretty stuff will go away. I treasure stability over beauty when it comes to my PC.

I actually read an article where some guy ran 3DMark and some other benchmarking apps and games on his PC after a fresh format\install of Windows and after installing and turning on all the stardock apps. His scores were either the same, or only a frame less per second. Pretty interesting. I originally had my PC configured with one account that I do most things from (the one in the screenshot) and another that I game from that only loads what's absolutely necessary. I may change that now, though after reading that article.

It's coming along really nicely. I have to admit that it's not really my color scheme (I haven't seen media 1) but it's really different and plenty of people will love this skin once it's finished. It's kind of FUN. Maybe add some more bright colors here and there to go with that green.

I know it's not finished yet but the Action Window needs to be a different color so it doesn't merge into the tree (not that we'll have a tree for much longer!)

Except that the URL inside the .mjp is incorrect. If anyone is impatient, they can always save the .mjp locally, edit the file by replacing the URL with http://sharemation.com/tomy00/MC_Skinning/MediaOne/MOne_b1.zip, and then launching.

Nice one!! - I'm VERY glad they gave you the free copy of MC.

Few comments - the alternating rows are VERY similar gray - any chance of a tad (english word = tiny) darker for the dark one or lighter for the light one so we can see the difference more?

Also - not sure how or where - but could we have some more bright colours in it? I dont have RealOne installed right now but I remember it being really bright and colourful (if I'm wrong tell me to shut up).

Overall though it's great - so is the WMP skin!!

supply a screenshot of your idea.. coz text doesn't draw up in my mind (every person explains in a different way you know)

well,...
the colors in that skin is the same colors in the RealOne Player..
except for the liberary, tree and list views... in realone this stuff is tabs and every tab has its own colors.. like brown, darkblue.. and i didn't see them match the other part of the player skin.. so the bottom part of my skin which includes the library is my very own matched colors..

bottom right corner seems to be... odd. Perhaps because the statistics display region is too close to the right edge of the app window?

Is the BG color for the tree area supposed to be the same grey as the dividers/frame?

i guess not.. coz i used the same skin color (from boarder to the areas around the white playbar window on the top) to be the same tree color

I am happy

All I want now is the old 'Winamp 2' feature - chose a random skin at startup - and I'd be VERY happy - that way I'd get a bright new look each time I started MC - that'd be too cool

I used to love that in Winamp - I just kept skins I liked and got a fresh one each time - they killed it for v3 (reckon the programmers were boring guys who didn't understand the concept of 'change is as good as a break' and so couldn't fathom wanting a new look randomly!!)

Not sure if you've looked at mini me skins - but WMP9 has some quite nice mini me ones - u could port some of those too if u get bored and felt like it

well iam planning for one of 2 things...
finishing MediaOne skin first for sure

then making another one .. would be winamp! or start making mini-mes and hairstyles for the skins i launched till now!
