IR remote control plug-ins
« on: December 21, 2002, 03:33:54 am »

There are several remote control plug-ns for MJ. Anyone have links as to where I can buy a remote control unit to match any of the plug-ins?

Thanks

http://www.evation.com makes the IRMan IR receiver.  It plugs into a serial port and works with the MJ IRMan plug-in directly or can be managed by Girder, uICE and several other general RC programs which can then manage MJ.

If you need to SEND commands to external devices like DVD players, TVs, cable boxes, etc.  you'll need something a little more elaborate such as an Irlinc or Slink-e.

It would honestly depend on your needs a little as well. If your PC is going to be a very long distance or not in line-of-sight, I'd suggest getting something that can accomodate long serial cable runs. Try our Girders, link page for hardware...girder is by far the best for just about any application. I do not, however recommend an RF remote resolution as they are usually very tied to certain remotes.
