[req] type, enter, then search
« on: October 16, 2003, 07:52:40 pm »

I don't know how many times I have to keep typing in the search area before I get what I want. I know what I'm gonna search for but MC insists on searching 5 times before I get done typing what I want.

First, it's pretty slow with a huge list of files. Second, it definately doesn't like 'My Computer' but I'm sure that would be fixed either way.

I just want to type what I want, press enter when I'm ready, and then search. As of now, enter doesn't do anything (per request of many).

Here's what you could do and it wouldn't affect the way it works now:

Make the default "type and search" (as it is now). Add a menu in the search menu (at the bottom) that says something like this: "Auto Search". This would be checked as default.

Now when someone turns this off (like me), it will wait until the 'Enter' key is pressed, then search......and then I would be a happy camper!@#  ;)

Just like to add that I'm not a fast typer. Maybe because I'm slow, MC thinks I'm done already. :dunno:

Maybe everyone here types fast and don't see it.

The build that just went out auto-adjusts the auto search delay.

Try it and see if it (at least partially) fixes the problem.

I still can't search in MC's "My Computer".

If I select my mp3 drive, with MC set to list "recursive - no data" the list is just over 7000 files. Now, if I type 1 letter in the search bar, MC starts that gathering info thing, if I type 2 or more letters, I get the gathering info dialogue right after the 1st keypress and no other input is accepted. When the search on the first letter is done, the search field has the first and second letters typed with a space appended, and it's all highlighted. Deselect the text, remove the space, type the next letter, wait a while, etc. etc.
