Need really obscure 80s tunes
« on: November 07, 2003, 12:21:40 pm »

I want to recreate about 60 tapes my partner made in the 80s.  Of all those online sites, are there any that have really obscure 80s tunes?

We have all the albums here, but the turntable needs a doctor, and I want to do this by Christmas, so downloading is the only route.

Rhapsody might be your best hope. You'll have to pay for a month of service ($9.95 US) AND $0.79 (US) per track. You can browse for the titles before signing up, though.

If you have a lot of tracks you want to burn, then Rhapsody is the way to go, since it's only 79 cents per track.  The rest of the service is worth $9.95/month, IMHO.  You can burn as many tracks as you like during your trial period.  During that time, you will have to pay for the tracks, but not the service.

Hi Lise,
Wasn't Jonny into the Replacements?  Twintone records launched them.

Twintone sold tracks via Liquid Audio at one time.  Not sure what they do now.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Jim--good memory. Of course, since he is such a Replacements (and Paul Westerberg) fan, he has all of the records, and then duplicates on cds, and those on mp3s...

I'm fairly sure I am out of luck, because many of the songs I need are from obscure Canadian bar bands like Jerry Jerry and Jr Gone Wild.

It's really too bad no service has *all* music. Man, that would be cool. In fact, I just thought of this, but the absolute best would be if AMG had mp3s (or lossless) of their entire catalogue. Wow!
