New Computer - Crappy Sound - FIXED!!!
« on: November 17, 2003, 08:30:20 pm »

 :-[

I just got a new computer and installed MC on it. I have a SoundBlaster Live card that came on it and it sounded great but it only had four channels and I wanted six so I installed my Extigy and Media Center's sound has been scratchy and garbled ever since.
I even tried uninstalling
Extigy and using the Live but it still is unlistenable.
MusicMatch, Windows Media, Dell's Music  Something-or-other and Rhapsody play just fine --- just no Media Center and that's the one I want. I can even play videos (or could, I haven't tried since the sound problems came up).

As all these other apps play through the sound cards just fine, I assume it's something that I have done wrong when setting up MC.

I have tried both Direct Sound and Wave Mapper (no ASIO on these cards) with and without DSP enabled.

Please help.

Have you ever heard the old saying:
If it is not broken do not fix it. ??

But you just had to mess with it didn't you?    :P

I can't count how many times I have donethings like that    :-\

Yes it did. I know it's a "special" card that only Dell uses but it worked when I first used MC9 after setting up but I never intended to use it much .. I already had an Extigy. The problems have only come after an intallation of SB Extigy. Now the SB Live card won't even work well ... with Media Center. It works with all the other music producing devices as did the Extigy.

OK, now I feel REALLY stupid. I changed the "Output Format" in DSP Studio to 4 channel output instead of "source ..." and all is now hunky-dory. Now the question is, should I try the Extigy again?
