Are we going to get support for M$'s new media keys??
« on: November 18, 2003, 02:26:19 am »

I just got my hands on of those new M$ Wireless keyboards with the new media keys and Intellitype 5.0.  Unfortunately, MediaCenter does not appear to support the new Windows events that these keys trigger. :(

Upon consulting a M$ MVP, he said the onus was on the media player software to support the new API.

Details: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwui/html/wm_appcmd.asp

According to M$ the following players already support it:
IntelliType Pro Software version 2.1:
Apple QuickTime version 4.1
ATI Multimedia Center (native support in versions 7.0 and later)
Creative PlayCenter version 1.51.23 (OEM version)
Microsoft CD Player (Windows 98 and later versions)
Microsoft Deluxe CD Player (Windows 98 and later versions)
Microsoft Windows Media Player (native support in versions 7.0 and later)
Musicmatch Jukebox (native support in versions 5.10.0149 and later)
Nullsoft Winamp version 2.6x
Ravisent CineMaster DVD 98/99 and 2000
Real Networks RealJukebox version 2.0
Real Networks RealPlayer version 8.0
Sonique Player version 1.30.4
Voyetra AudioStation 32 version 1.03.09

Please address this issue, because as more of the keyboards get out there and given that these are now the standard API events, this problem will affect more existing and potential customers.

This has already been discussed before. You can program the media keys with mjextman commands to wok correctly as a workround. Do a search to find the thread in question.

Just to help in your search, I know that I have posted about it a number of times.  I think that there was a thread back in early October.

Thanks People,

I *really* did search for keyboard media keys etc <honest> :-\

I found that info you mentioned by searching for mjextman.exe (which I'd never heard of!!)

anyhow that worked great!

thanks very much!!

I don't know... my Natural Multimedia Keyboard doesn't need Girder to support MC. The only key I had to specificly program was the Media key, in order to tell it what media player I wanted it to start. Other than that, it works fine.

I know that Girder was necessary in earlier builds, but that changed quite a while ago.
