WAV to Mp3 conversion problem
« on: December 06, 2002, 11:00:54 am »

I seem to be having a problem converting from a WAV file to a Mp3. I am using Media Jukebox 8.0.388 and all seems to go well until it gets right to the end of the conversion and then I get a system error message telling me that Media Editor will be shut down (and of course it does). When I check I find that no Mp3 has been created. All that has been added is a 2nd, temporary, copy of the WAV file. Any ideas?

Install the latest build (393)....see what happens.

Try using Tools>Convert Format (within MJ) instead of Media Editor.

I tried to use the alternate method you suggested but had the same result with the message that Media Jukebox had caused an error and would be shut down. The details are as follows:

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module ENC_EXTERNAL.DLL at 018f:0316709e.

Any ideas as to what I can do now?

To clarify the reply that I just sent: I tried the tools>convert format idea but I missed the part about going to the new build. Let me know if you think this will still help. I thought I saw somewhere on here that I will lose some functions with the new build.

Try downloading the MP3 encoder again.  It sounds like the encoder is the problem.

Use the internal mp3 encoder, not an external encoder.

I don't seem to have internal encoder as an option. I would laso like to know why the .wav files that Media Jukebox created by decoding (and I saved) do not show up when I look in the Media Library File Location listings?

You will lose the TV function and DVD playback with B393.

> why the .wav files that Media Jukebox created by decoding (and I saved) do not show up when I look in the Media Library File Location listings

They won't unless you do the Tools>Import Media. Reason being is MJ expects some kind of post processing (ie encode to MP3, Ogg, Ape, etc.) on the wav file. Wav files are created by ripping, not encoding.

> where do I get the Mp3 encoder?

Go to Tools>Options>Encoding and pick either MP3 Encoder or MP3 Encoder VBR (preferred). If they're not installed you will be prompted to download. To force a redownload even if you have them go to Settings>Plug In Manager. Delete the possibly corrupt ones, and download fresh ones from plug in page.

I downloaded the fresh Mp3 plug-ins and it worked better but still did not finish. This time it stalled on the encoding process. It did work on a very small music file that was an intro to a Garfield game but it played back at a much faster rate and sounded like the Chipmunks on steroids. This is getting very frustrating.

In your case I would.....

Backup license...unistall MJ...update anything updateable...reinstall MJ (bld 393)...restore license
