I wouldn't think it would be too hard for JRiver to provide a PDF version of the help.  Or maybe HTML even.

Or browse the 'net for a utility to convert chm to pdf and do it yourself.  I'd do it for you, but JimH might get mad :-)

I think the last update of the help file was unfortunately done for version 9.0... and a lot has changed since then!!

Decompile the CHM using Microsoft's free "HTML Help Workshop".  Then you have all the help as HTML and graphics.  I'm not sure how to convert the TOC and index, though.  But if you're looking to print it out, that should work just fine.

The help files are only released with the product--so when v10 is released, the v10 help files will be released with it.  This may not be great for beta testers, but it's the only way to go, as the help files can't be written before the product is finished.

The help files usually consist of a chm file (Help within MC) and an html version that is posted on the JRiver site. So the current help files (chm and html) are for v9.

You hire programmers to write your code. You hire QA people to test the software (presumably). You hire marketing and sales to promote and sell the software.  You hire VPs and managers to plan and run the show. Why haven't you hired a technical writer to (a) write usable documentation and (b) produce it in formats that users demand?

A good technical writer (such as me) can not only design and write information well, but knows the approriate developmetn tools to produce output in multiple formats easily.

twriter,

You've got a point...but the position you forgot was a forum spellchecker (for cases like "approriate developmetn")...wait...that's what I am...but since I can't figure out what you meant then I'll leave the correction up to you.

I have just downloaded and tried a natty little shareware tool called CHMMagic from http://www.bisenter.com/.

This tool takes a CHM file and converts directly to PDF.

It took about 5 minutes on my machine to convert to PDF. There is a watermark in the software, due to it being an unregistered version. The source CHM is about 1.45 Mb, and the resulting PDF file is about 4.15 Mb.

If anyone is interested I have converted the existing CHM file within MC10 (which is probably the same as the file from V9, and put it up on the net.

Sorry, I don't have much space on my ISP personal webpage, so I only have room to put up an A4 version.

I found a similar tool last night:  http://www.colorpilot.com/chm2pdf.html  It, too, worked like a charm.

I looked for something open-source, but had no luck.  I have some other CHM's I'd like to make into PDF, so maybe I'll keep looking for a solution.
