Registration Problem
« on: February 18, 2004, 10:27:34 am »

I have purchased the license, but got an "unable to open the license file" error from the registration page.  I get the same error with an attempt to restore either from the registration page or from a copy of the file  on hard disk.  I have turned off NAV to see if this made a difference - NONE!  What gives?

Are you using IE as your browser?

Have you checked the FAQ here?

www.mediajukebox.com/license

What version are you using?

When you purchase you receive e-mail.  What is the name of the license?

Please do not copy your license message here or the license will be revoked.

I am using the latest version of IE 6.0.  I have looked at the FAQ, no help.  The version of Media Jukebox is the latest version 8, I downloaded it just 4 days ago.  The message from the email is: "Thank you for your purchase of Media Jukebox 8 from JRiver, Inc."

I don't know.  Virus checker?

Try the work-around for saving the file to your PC.  Right click on Registration Code....  It's in the FAQ.

Then execute the .mjr file by clicking on it from Windows Explorer.  If that doesn't work, something on your PC may be preventing it.

I have turned off the Virus Checker (NAV), no success.  Also saved the file to hard disk and tried from there (reread my original post).  I am sure that something is preventing the program from installing the license, but what?  Any known conflicts with Easy CD Creator 6 Platinum?  Cannon printer add-in programs (like Easy PhotoPrint, ZoomBrowser EX)?  Is it possibe the license key file itself is bad (.mrj)?

Check your system clock.

System clock is fine.  This is a newer P4 2.53GHz Slim desktop (see Amptron's website) running Windows XP Home.  512MB DDR memory, 60GB HD.  I know there are no viruses in the computer.  I service computers for a living since I retired.

Is the date OK?  That was what John meant.  Look carefully.

What version are you using?  Copy your system info from the Help section of the program and paste it here.

If that's all correct, there is a problem with the file being opened on your OS, so it could be the virus checker.  Uninstall it, not just disable it.  We've seen problems that were related to a virus checker or firewall being active even when it wasn't supposed to be.

The simplest test is executing the file you've just saved on your machine.

Yes, I knew what John meant.  I have run into that problem in my servicing.  Here's the system info:

Media Jukebox  8.0.400
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2522 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 490 MB, Free - 225 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1400
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1233
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Uninstalling Norton just to get a license installed seems a little drastic especially with the new Norton which requires activation (2004).  If you really have that problem with you license key - FIX IT!  I like the program, but not so much that I'm willing to jump through a lot of hoops to use it.

Thanks, but I don't recognize the problem you're having, so I'm guessing.

I agree that uninstalling some other piece of software shouldn't be necessary, but you might be surprised or disappointed to find out how often it happens.

Success!  ;D

I copied Media Jukebox and the installation key to my Dell Inspiron laptop.  The Media Jukebox worked fine, the Installation key gave me the same error message.  I then used the Internet Restore with my registration key and it worked fine, so I saved the new Installation Key (it was slightly smaller than the faulty key).  I then transfered this new key back to the Pentium 4 and successfully installed it.  The Pentium 4 would still not download and install the MP3 encoder (the Dell laptop did), but by transfering the encoder from the Dell to the Pentium 4, I was able to get it installed also.  I am now convinced that the problem is in the download process, but still don't know what is interfering (it's not Norton AV).

Hi

I had this same problem when I went to register I got the error message cannot open file. I went to internet explorer went to the tools tab went to options and went to delete files. I did this and I was able to register successfully.

I got the delete files tip from this forum but now I can't seem to find this post.

bye
