I'm trying to get my MC though my A/V system as inexpensive as possible.  I've used  Hauppauge's Media MVP (ethernet), but it only plays files in one folder.  Since I have a folder for every cd, it is too limited.

I've simply gone audio out of my earphone jack (Laptop); the audio is less than crapy.

I know there's a solution out there, who has it?

How about a long cable from the PC to the amp?

You can run digital through cheapie TV coax a long ways for next to no money.

Well, I personally do the same thing: i use a minijack to rca connector and have no sound quality problems. One issue though is that maybe the audio level you send to oyur receiver is too high and therefore it might sound saturated. Try to lower the sound level on your PC. Also, DFX and other EQs might also saturate your audio as well. Try different volume settings without any DSP running.

i used to use a loooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng headphone extender on a 3.5mm jack, worked okay.

Now i use a loooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng digital coaxial by http://www.impactacoustics.com. Not cheap, but the quality seems good (havent had it long) and they do supply digital coaxials up to 100 feet

Man, you've been had!   I use cheap phono to mini jack cables and phono extension cables longer than that in my house, and the sound is exactly the same. A bit is a bit, don't let those of the cable voodoo cult fool you. When you're dealing with SPDIF, the only thing that may spoil the audio quality is when the cable is so long that you get dropouts.

what! the digital cable is definately better quality than analog cables (my run about 25 feet). Also for 5.1 sound, its easier to lay 1 cable than 3...

For long runs, coax works better for line-level analog audio also.  Plain old RG-6 quad shield is what you want for anything, I suspect that anything sold as "digital coax" is just charging extra for a fancy name....

your probably right, i know theres a different impedence for digital coax (75ohm) versus normal (50 ohm), but as long as the signal actually reaches the other end it should be the same. mine is a pretty colour though...
