Crackles and pops
« on: April 03, 2004, 01:30:31 pm »

Not sure if this is an issue with MC, but recently I'm experiencing loud crackles and pops when pressing play or stop and when changing the volume in MC, and also when shutting down the PC. The 'cure' appears to be to play a second of a song through WMP - then MC starts behaving, until the next time I restart the PC. Can anyone suggest what the problem is?

Did you try a search here?  There was a similar problem reported and solved around a month ago.

Hi Jim

I did try a search, and have tried again just now, but evidently the terms I'm searching for aren't right. I'm either getting no hits, or it's returning this particular thread  ?. If you can suggest some alternative terms or provide the thread ID, I'd be grateful - sorry if I'm being dense.

Probably the DMA/PIO issue, which doesn't seem to apply to your case. Do you have latest soundcard drivers installed? If you do...then re-install them. It looks like your keeping up with the 10.0.x builds so I doubt a re-installation of MC would help.

If nothing above helps...
1) Shutdown
2) Remove the SoundCard
3) Reboot (don't run anything audio related)
4) Shutdown
5) Re-install SC
6) Reboot
7) Install SoundCard drivers
