Media Center 11.0.80 Alpha Available
« on: September 09, 2004, 04:48:37 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110080.exe  [see price link above]

  • Many Theater View enhancements
  • Animated Direct3D file browsing
  • Split views so you can look at two (or more) views at the same time (ex. look at Media Library and Playing Now together)
  • Vastly improved database engine capable of handling 100,000's of files and large amounts of metadata (lyrics, bios, etc.)
  • Several memory and speed enhancements -- like database and skin unloading when minimizing MC
  • Much of MC's interface can be translated to other languages
  • Integrated database import and update with smart broken linking repairing, and other nice features
  • MC can run with guest permissions on Windows 2000 / Windows XP
  • New view customization system with more flexibility for thumbnail size, text, etc.
  • Options dialogs reworked -- several small options added
  • Added multi-zone synchronization
  • Added Album Gain support
  • Document support with full text searching / indexing
  • Pane auto-sizing
  • Tile view that allows fully customizable Track Info style tiles to be used in file lists
  • New database caching layer that makes a huge speed difference in many areas of MC
  • File tagging happens in a background thread so MC can continue to be used while it's saving tags
  • Basic image editing
  • Enhanced album grouping for pictures so pictures taken together get grouped without any user intervention
  • Preview mode to only play the intro of songs

Matt,

Thanks for NEW version of the X-10 MP3 plugin today! It now installs and I can configure it.

But it does not seem to want to work... :-(  It sees the com port, but eveytime I click the remote, nothing happens... Even changed the batteries in case...

You guys may not have one of these remotes over there, but if you want, we can take this offline and I would be glad to help you.

Thanks for this great step forward. The X-10 MP3 remote is really great because it is an RF remote instead of IR which means I can use it all over the house. Plus it also controls my X-10 lighting system.

Michel.

When I select Windowed View why does MC not stay in that view ?  It always goes back to Full Screen View after double-clicking on the TV window.

It did not used to act like this.

If images are ftp'd to a path that doesn't exist, they're sent to the root directory instead, along with index.html.

Importing from the shell now working again, but...

There used to appear a small notification screen that displayed how many files were imported and how many failed.

That was specifically useful when importing .mpl playlists! has this been forgotten or is it not available any more?

They're mouse only, and if you move the mouse they show up.

Matt:

Seeing version .80  work so well on my HTPC is just incredible. You guys must have been working really hard this week.  The Theater View is working great, and external programs are working too.

I really appreciate all of the work you put in, and how much input you let your customers have.

Thanks.  Take a look at the TheaterView skins files themselves.  You should be able to find some clues there.

The Reshuffle command via the remote/girder does not refresh the display in Theatre Mode (Playing Now).  It is fine when I access Reshuffle with the Controls button and the remote works in Standard View.

I want to thank cncb who suggested to uncheck the Media Jukebox executeable in SendMessages.  I'm a girder novice, but this tip let me use my remote again.

The sendmessage I was using is labeled "Reshuffle-Send to PN".  Is there something I need to change in girder?

I think you may have better luck using just the plain "Reshuffle-No Jump to PN" command. Look in the "Playback" section.

Best,

Tried the Reshuffle-No Jump.  No luck.  Had the same result as Reshuffle-Jump to PN.  Thanks for the idea though.

12. NEW: When launching an external program, Theater View hides and then restores once the new program is closed.

This works, but it would be better if Theaterview just stopped pushing itself to the foreground. By hiding Theaterview, I'm left with a transition that shows the desktop while my external program is loading. In this case the desktop is showing MC's Standard View. Unfortunately, not a very pretty transition for a HTPC.

Matt,

When I import media from data CD-Rs or DVD-Rs, MC does not always recognize the CD's or DVD's volume name in the "Disk Location" part of the tree. about 2/3 of the time it will pick up the volume name correctly, but about a third of times, it will not. Instead it will show that the volume name is something like "Unnamed Disc (30)".

To fix this, I have to insert the disc and got the "Drives & Devices" part of the tree, right-click on the CD and select "Edit Selected Item" to rename it to the proper volume name.

But once I do that and have the proper volume name displayed, if I go back to "Disk Location", the volume name there is not always updated. Even funnier, sometimes it is updated in the tree side, but not in the right side upper pane.

I've just create a screenshot for you to see. I'll email it to you so you better understand what I mean...

The folders I had specified in "Search for Files & Update Library" have been reverted back to "Entire Computer" upon installing this build.

Nevermind, I found the root of the problem and it was not MC's update installation that caused this, it was my reg-cleaner software felt it was an orphaned reg key and removed the settings.  All fixed  :)

14. Changed: Added the CUE file type to the import dialog.
Thanks, it works if you deselect the small file limit on import.

That of course would be due to MC not knowing the length of the selections from the cue file.

Cool, this works quite well.  I don't see any reason why not to use MC Theater View as the front end to my HTPC now.  Thanks!

I choose Options->Startup->Startup Volume->Set Volume to 45%
Click OK
Exit MC
Open MC
Startup volume is not set and the settings are at default when I look.

Matt;

Question
"The elimination of the bars in the top window confuses me... are we going somewhere with this "new" feature "

Reply
"They're mouse only, and if you move the mouse they show up."

Not unless I first right mouse click and select a menu they will not show up.

Seems like we are going backwards on this as it worked just fine before.
