« on: November 15, 2004, 04:53:52 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110128.exe [see price link above]

I HAVE A SCHEME OF THIS (same results if I use a smartist) (I can edit the Scheme and not the smartlist)
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name,artist
Returns 3,000*

I PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~nodup=ARTIST

Returns 500*
*number is relative to real ones.

The sort is consistent, and I can hit f5 to refresh and get the same results. (This is great)

BUT..  I know longer have just duplicate names in the output. It was (20). It has everything with a different artist from the same list.

I liked the old way better. (And you probably knew that, it just didn't make any sense to get differnet results when I did things in the same order).  (Sorry)

Quote
UPDATE:
I got this to work.
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name,artist ~nodup=artist ~dup=name,md5texthash

It comes back with the same answer each time.
I AM HAPPY AGAIN.  THANKS

And the real number was 48..

Thanks for these!  Each of them were things that mildly irritated me (and some others on this board).  This looks to be a great build (though I admit I haven't finished downloading it yet).

Keep up the good work!

2 strange things:

1. In Library Browser, MC is showing that I have many albums unassigned to a Genre. This is not true and when I look at them via Media Library, I have none showing Unassigned as a Genre.

2. This is a question I'm hoping there is an answer to -- how do I encode Mp3 VBR? That's not an option on the pull down menu and when I went to Download Plugins, there is no plug-in listed for MC11 for this. (I ran into this because I had to reformat my hard drive and reload everything from scratch, including MC, so for the first time in months I had to set up the encoding preference.)

Oh, one more thing, this started with .127--

It comes up and says my license has expired. Sheesh, I only had it a week or so! I did a restore, but I could run out of all 10 of those pretty quick if it does this with every new update.

Re:Media Center 11.0.128 (No "update library" button)

Just upgraded to MC 11 and all is working fine.

I noticed that the function for "update Library", previously under the File -> Library menu is no longer there.  However, the Help still shows this as the way to get to it.

Hope this is not a repeat issue.

Thanks for the great product.

Regards.

piazza:

All of the options for updating the library have been moved to the "Import" dialog window. it can be found under "File" - "Library" - "Import". Unless you want to Backup or Restore a library, then it is in the "Library" menu.

Crew:
Seems to me that the sorting is broken in the List View. Its still showing the heirarchy as far as what order the columns are sorted but the songs are all jumbled.

Tagging works not the same as it used to. After making tag changes the content pane ist not refreshed any longer and this is rather confusing.

WFM.  I'm not seeing any sorting problems at all.  Are you sure you don't have a sort applied in the View Scheme search (meaning "Step 4" of the Edit View scheme dialog)?  If you have a Sort entry here (such as "Sort: Random" or something) it will override the settings in the "List View" (meaning the little arrows will have no effect once you leave/re-enter the view scheme).

Nope, checked that. I don't do any sort from the view schemes. Thanks for the tip though.

Do I install this over the the older version? Using the "check for update key" doesn't have any effect.

Yes - it's as simple as that.

Good morning guys!

This might be very old or entirely new behavior starting with .27, not sure.  I get a crash if I do the following:

1) Select a lossless .wma from my library (I have many)
2) Select Update Library from Tags

or

1) Clear my library
2) Attempt to import this lossless .wma file

I found several hundred files out of my collection that exhibit this behavior and I think I know why: I use aTagger and most of my files have bios, lyrics and reviews, and many more fields.  I chose to embed those in the tags as well as in the library.  It appears that .wma files whose tags are past some threshold of size crash MC on library import or update.

To prove this I systematically started removing my least-used big tags from the files.  Bios went first and many of the files then imported.  Artist Albums went second and this allowed several more to import.  For the remaining ones I also had to remove Reviews.  Now they all import fine on both computers running MC11.

Tag contents didn't matter (just overall size) and the file didn't matter, though .mp3's didn't seem affected at all so it may be limited to the .wma format.

Take care,

-Doug

The "check for update" doesn't work because this is still an "alpha" version and is still under development.

As far as upgrading "over top" it depends.  If you are updating from a previous MC11, then just go ahead and upgrade.  If you are updating from MC10 or earlier, I'd probably uninstall.  You actually can run both MC10 and MC11 side by side, so (I think ... its been a while since I upgraded) you'd end up with 2 copies of Media Center on your computer if you don't uninstall first.  Just make sure to keep the "settings" and don't delete your library.

If someone else knows the details on this from a recent MC10 --> MC11 upgrade, pipe in.

My request wishlist:

  • Since a new backup is created on each import, can we set the number of MAX Backups to retain?
  • [Date (Month #)] Field -- Please ?
  • Using [Dimensions] (Calculated Field) in a thumbnail view shows "CIRCULAR: Dimensions" instead.
  • Media Server -- Allow us to select which fields are included, if I elimiinate Lyrics/Bios I can reduce the downlaod size by about 80% !!!
  • Full EXIF Parsing Support -- To allow custom field creation from these tags, as well.
  • On Duplicate checking, allow a "Selection~" tag so that I can select the Low Bitrate, or Smallest Filesize, or Oldest File, etc
  • Auto-Import Functionality (Use Media Scheduler to import basedon the new intelligent import wizard)
  • CD+G Support Plugin!

  • Auto-Import Functionality (Use Media Scheduler to import basedon the new intelligent import wizard)
I was actually about 75% of the way through writing a standalone program that did just this, but separately from the Media Scheduler (it simply scanned the given directory for a specific media type and called a MC object to run the database import) when I simultaneously discovered a serious bug in my code (it won't kill the MC object after the program finished) and upgraded to VS.NET 2003 ... I kind of lost interest in the project for some reason, but if there would be interest in it, I could probably take up the cause again and have something working in a somewhat short amount of time.

Writing it in .NET code will be far easier than writing it in VB6 (which is what the old stuff was done in).

(Hmm, that's interesting, the QUOTE function placed the Bullet outside of the quotation block ... A little bug in the YaBB forum software?)
