How do I get the TV thing to work???
« on: January 02, 2005, 08:44:16 pm »

Ok..I know that I'm technically challenged, but Santa brought me a new computer for christmas ( a Sony Vaio VGC-RA826G, 3.4 GhZ Pentium 4 with a Sata drive and everthing!!)  Now I want to get my media center to do the TV stuff....it came with windows media center, but I'd rather use MC11.  Trouble is, I can't seem to find the buttons to set up the channels or the remote.

I can get the TV Tuner option on the tree to open the page with the information and the chanel input panel (the one with the buttons like a remote).  But there is no scan option nor is there any add button to be found, and I clicked on everything in sight.  I know that it's bound to be something streight forward, but for the love of mike, I can't find it!!!  HELP!!!!

Here's my system information - and remember - I need the for dummies explaination!!!   Thanks  Betty

I don't think the TV tuner that is included with the machine will work with MC.  Sorry.

Well, that explains the error msg:  PlaybackEng: preview graph has not been built.   SIGH.....guess I'll just have to use what came with it.....BIGGER SIGH......maybe it will get included in another build.   Bet

Did you see the "Options" button next to "Watch" button below the (empty) channel list? Click "Options" to find out whether your device can work with MC. As Jim said, the device may not be supported.

Yup, did that and it asked me where I was (picked Canada) then it disappeared and I got the error msg about the preview graph.  SIGH.  I couldn't get it to do anything other than give me the error msg after that.    Bet

This is what my specs say about the card : Video & Graphics

16x PCI Express Giga Pocket™ MPEG2 Realtime Encoder/Decoder board with TV Tuner

So it is a Sony device. They are not supported in MC.

Bebop,
It's more a question of whether Sony will ever release drivers for their hardware that comply with the Windows Direct Media standard.  If they do, MC will then work.

I suspect it will eventually happen.  They seem to be moving toward standards.

That won't work if the driver for the card isn't compatible.  MC10 and MC11 work the same way.

If you have a VAIO, MC is locked out.
