The "Sharing..." and "Received..." messages keep repeating over and over again until I stop the DSM-320.  The track starts to play initially and then immediately stops with the repeating messages described above.  This happens with conversion turned on or off.

FYI- Fry's (in Dallas-Fort Worth area anyway) is selling the Netgear 101s in this weekend's specials for $34 after rebate.  Mine's working like a charm and at this price it's hard to pass up.  In fact, the MC11 alpha-level upnp support is already good enough that I don't even use the Netgear Server anymore due to MC's way-superior organization.

twentwortg,

I think this is the current issue of not being able to convert on the fly from uPNP server. If the files are already MP3s try switching off any conversion and see what happens...

Hi, any new news on the next UPnP plugin release?  I am hoping you can fix the problem I am having with the Roku Soundbridge.  I have posted the issue in a separate thread here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=26117.0

I do have an update actually.   Before, if I tried to browse Artist on the Roku, it would issue a "Failed to load browse data > OK <"...

I got around this by creating lots of playlists and then browsing Playlists instead of Artists.  If I could successfully get the Playlist browse data, then streaming actual files was not a problem.  Well, now I can no longer browse playlists -- the only changes have been an update to MC 11.0.199 (registered), and I have added more songs to my library.  11.10.199 didn't break it specifically, b/c it worked with that upgrade for a while.

In MC UPnP, the logs say:

Browse BrowseDirectChildren Playlists

but the Roku croaks with "Failed to load browse data > OK <"

Not sure if this is helpful, but this log pattern is continually repeated even when the system isn't doing anything but the UPnP server is started:

03/06/05 01:06:30 - Unknown SSDP Server method: NOTIFY, NT: upnp:rootdevice, USN: uuid:526F6B75-536F-756E-6442-000D4B03671E::upnp:rootdevice

I would be happy to try to collect any other data or troubleshoot it, if more information is needed.  Again, I posted a lot of info on that thread referenced above about my HW/SW platform, and error/debug messages.

Regards,
Davis

I've tried every current combination of UPNP settings and nothing works.  It doesn't appear to have anything to do w/ conversion.

Anyone tried the Netgear MP115 yet?  I'm thinking of buying it or the Buffalo Tech LinkTheater unit for MC11 use.  I don't need video, but WMA audio is important (non DRM).  I know the LinkTheater isn't there yet, but it will come eventually.

Same exact issue is also happening with me, following the DSM-320's auto-update to firmware 1.05.

Same log pattern ...

Encoding conversion problems should be fixed in the latest build.

How about the SL400i?
Please try the latest build.

Thanks, you guys are really trying hard to keep us happy!

Just tried the .213 build.

After installing on top of .211 the UPnP server did not even show up in the tree.

Uninstalling and re-installing .213 brought the UPnP server back.

Unfortunately, functionality is the same as with the .211 build:  WAV files cannot be played.

Does the WAV fromat work with any other players that have been tested?

Can you try turning on conversion to MP3?  You could use a high bitrate.

Hello !

My config :
MC 11 build 213 on Pentium 4 2.4GHz

UPnP device : Philips SL300 I

Audio .mp3 are correctly recognized and played on SL300I
Pictures .jpeg are correctly recognized and played

but

Video .mpg , .avi , .divx are ignored  "unsupported file format"

The same .mpg .avi .divx are perfectly played by SL300I when I use Philips Media Manager as UPnP server on the same PC.I

Any clue about it ?

Pictures and video may not work yet with any UPnP device.  We're still working on it.

Jim,

Thanks for the quick response.

MP3 conversion works OK, but I'm really looking to have full resolution audio capability ( all my files are in WAV format).

While the server has enough basic functionality now to make it useable, there are a few functions missing.

1) Full format support - This is a "must have"
2) Full transport controls (fast forward, rewind, pause) -  This is a "must have"
2) Text based search - This is a "should have"

Once these functions are available, cover art support would be the real icing on the cake that would put J River WAY ahead of anything else out there.

I fully realize that the product is still under development, so I don't want to come accross as a whiner, just trying to give you feedback on what I see.  That said, it is a bit frustrating to read that something's been fixed, in this case the mime type bug, only to find that it doesn't work.  It would be great to hear if WAV files work with other players or not instead of getting a suggestion to use another format.  I did report that conversion to MP3 did work in my original post on the .211 release.

So thanks again for all your efforts in getting MC11 and UPnP out there.  Having seen the great potential of your product, I'm really excited about having a fully functional version released.  I'd really like to be able to drop the lame manager that came with my Philips Streamium.

I posted on a separate thread, but JimH (I think) suggest I post it here instead.

In the meantime, I've tested it with the .213 release of MC11 to make sure it wasn't fixed in that version, but it doesn't appear to have been so...

If I add an internet radio station (i.e. MP3 stream) to a playlist and then try accessing that from my MP101, the MP101 says it's currently unavailable.

The streams do work otherwise (using the standard Netgear Server for instance) so I presume that the UPnP plugin is somehow not sending the information about the stream properly.

I wouldn't be surprised by that, since streams are obviously a special case, but do you know if this is just an MP101-specific issue or is it down to the way the UPnP plugin works at the moment?

Has anyone got streams working with other Media Receivers?

Thanks

DSM-320 works better but not completely
« Reply #67 on: March 17, 2005, 08:21:34 pm »

As of build 11.0.216 I can play single files at a time on my DSM-320 with firmware 1.05, but it hangs at the end of the song (it does not move to the next song).

Strangely if I stop playing and then choose another song it will play it.

I am transcoding from WMA lossless to MP3 extreme if that matters.

Before I take up any of John's time, if someone could confirm that they have a DSM-320 1.05 configuration working (for more than one song) with the latest MC build, I would like to hear your configuration and I'll experiment with settings.

Hope this is the right place for this post.

My 2 MP101's are working great with build 218 !

Works fine that is, with MC itself.  The media server however gives a server not found message on the client side.

Have I read things right in assuming the media server is just a few build behind and should be working soon ?

MC's UPnP Server is part of Media Server now.  When you get the error, what are you running and exactly what happens?

Are you also running MC10?  If so, turn off its Media Server.

UPnP client : Philips Streamium SL300 I

MC 11 beta build 218

UPnP server 1.0.12

No alphanumeric jumps (only jump to numeric place in the present list)

Videos (.mpg, .divx) are unplayable "unrecognized format"

Any hope to have a solution ? (For the time being, I must use TwonkyVision as server)

Not running MC 10.

If I run MC11 and start the UPnP Server I can connect from my MP101 clients.

If I Stop the UPnP Server, exit MC11 and just run the Media Server then my MP101 clients report "No Server Found"

[myron's post from the 219 bug thread]

Just tried the UPnP server of the .219 release with my ethernet connected Philips SL400i and it has at least the following problems:

While navigating throught the folder hierarchy it seems to hang when I get to the level that contains music tracks.  The SL400i reports that it keeps searching.  Here's the server log, it goes much further, but looks the same after the point I captured:

Attempting to navigate back up the hierarchy seems to work, but when I tried going back down another path, MC crashed with a "Media Core has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." error dialog box.

Don't stop the UPnP Server

j

Thanks, I didn't quite understand how it all works.

I now have the media server working at startup under it's own login.

My next question is about the streaming media. I have located some stations that broadcast in wma and MP3 and have added them to a playlist.

I can listed fine in MC 11   but when I try from the MP101 I can see the playlist and select the items but only get an "Item not Available" message.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Stephen

That's what I posted about further up in this thread :-)

Still no response yet though...  :'(

Hi Y'all,

Haven't had a chance to look at radio stations. Make sure that they are of type audio, and transcode them to mp3.

Hi John :-)

I wasn't sure whether it was going to transcode them - is that what you'd expect?

I figured there were two options:

1. MC would just tell the client that there's a stream to connect to, and it's somewhere other than the PC that MC is running on - i.e. go direct to the radio station

2. MC would tell the client to connect to a stream that it relays, and that would either be in its native format or a format that MC then transcoded.

If it were option 2, that would make a LOT of MP101 users REALLY happy, because they're always moaning about only being able to access MP3 streams (personally, I'm quite happy only ever listening to MP3 streams, but on the other hand I might listen to others if I could... :-)

Hi Rob,

MC should read the stream and send it to the client, so transcoding should work.

Is it necessary to transcode streams that are already MP3 ?

No it is not. And "real soon now"(tm) this should be handled better, with more options on choosing when to transcode.

Including shoutcast stations ?

Just sending in my wishlist while things are still in development.

Thanks,
