Remove album art from comment?
« on: February 16, 2005, 10:38:14 am »

This feature is breaking another program I use.  Is there an easy way to clean out the album art from OGG files through MC?

Thanks!

I like the "add album art to file if possible" feature, but it is breaking another program I have.  Can I remove the album art through MC?

Before you do that, what program are you having problems with? And what is the problem?

"The Godfather".  Basically I talked to the developer and he confirmed his program is not designed for a 12K comment.  I do not mind a cache of album art so I wanted to remove the art from the last of the files that have it included.

The program URL is http://users.otenet.gr/~jtcliper/tgf/.  It is really good at complicated tagging , restructuring etc.

That mafia stuff is forbidden here.  :P

(Seriously, have you unticked the MC general option "Save cover art inside tags when possible" and tried the Image tools? For example: Right-click > Image > Remove Cover Art)

Yeah I did try that to no avail :-(  I was able to delete via dbPowerAmp, so I guess that works.

BTW, I am Alex B too ;-)

Thanks for your help!

What type file is this? I have never seen an image put into the comment field.

OGG

Looks like the other developer thought it was in the comment field.  dbPowerAmp says it is a custom field.  So I guess it is a custom field.  If there is no way to remove it via MC I can look for another tagger for removing them.  Not the biggest deal :-)

MC has a Library Tool "Remove Tags". It removes all tags from the files (if it can). After removing the tags you can select "Update Tags (from library)" for getting the information back.

This feature appears to be broken in MC 11.0.193 with OGG files.  I select "remove all" and it says it is doing it yet the tags remain.

Strange. "Remove Tags" works here, but I noticed that I am not able to get cover art files inside the file tags by any means (I use normally external cover art). There can be a bug somewhere and these things can be connected.

It's also possible that your files just have corrupted tags. How did you get the files? Did you add the cover art with MC?

I confirmed that tags cannot be removed from what appears to be any OGG file.  I think we found a bug.
If I try an MP3 all works normally.....

Yeah I have a Rio Karma and some time ago I had the thought that I wanted all my music in OGG given it is completely open and quite efficient.  So I switched and converted my files.  Probably not the best idea in retrospect.

Luckely MC saved my by transcoding to my Tivo and to other MP3 players!!

I tried OGG Vorbis files and MP3 files.

I was able to remove the tags from files that don't have cover art inside, but I wasn't able to get cover art inside the files for testing if that changes anything. Not by pasting from clipboard or by using the Image Tools. And, yes, I changed the image storage option and restarted MC first.

Hmmm you are right.  I was able to get some OGGs to work.  Looks like it may be specifically OGGs with embedded pics.  I'd by happy to send you the file if you IM me.

Usually Matt likes to have these problem files, but I can have a look. I send you a forum PM.

Here is what you have in the file

Code: [Select]
Bitrate: 150 Kbps
Frequency: 44100 Hz
Channels: 2
Tag: (15 fields -- 116148 data bytes)
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:IMAGE FILE: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Data\Cover Art\Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism.jpg
   COVERARTMIME: image/jpeg
   COVERART: <too large to display>
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:TOOL NAME: Media Center
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:TOOL VERSION: 11.0.149
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:REPLAY GAIN: -14.53889
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:PEAK LEVEL: 0.98453
   TRACKNUMBER: 1
   ARTIST: Death Cab For Cutie
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:BPM: 122
   ALBUM: Transatlanticism
   TITLE: The New Year
   GENRE: Rock
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:INTENSITY: 4
   DATE: 2003

I didn't have problems with removing all tags from your file, but MC couldn't remove only the cover art tags. I tried also Foobar 2000 and it can do it.

I was finally able to embed cover art. I changed also the "Image File" library field option to write tags and it started to work. I didn't realise that was needed too. These are the tags I got:

Code: [Select]
Bitrate: 199 Kbps
Frequency: 44100 Hz
Channels: 2
Tag: (17 fields -- 24799 data bytes)
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:IMAGE FILE: D:\Music\_pix\Tina Arena - Just Me.jpg
   COVERARTMIME: image/jpeg
   COVERART: <too large to display>
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:TOOL NAME: Media Center
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:TOOL VERSION: 11.0.193
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:REPLAY GAIN: -13,68929
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:PEAK LEVEL: 1
   TRACKNUMBER: 1
   ARTIST: Tina Arena
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:ENCODER: EACsecL3903ape
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:BPM: 123
   ALBUM: Just Me
TITLE: Dare you to be happy
   COMMENT: Australia
   GENRE: Pop
   MEDIAJUKEBOX:INTENSITY: 3
   DATE: 2001

They look quite similar to me, but for some reason I can remove the cover art from my ogg file with MC11. One oddity is that MC saves the image also in the cover art folder. It makes a new file there when the image is pasted in.

Great, thanks for all of your help.  Sounds like Foobar should do the trick (In fact it worked).  Luckely it is not that many files to strip.

Have not played with Foobar in awhile, it really has tons of new features.  Especially with the"special" install.

Thanks Alex!
