Media Server 11
« on: March 12, 2005, 05:05:23 pm »

Hi,

I downloaded media centre 11 because I'd read that the media server now supports the Netgear MP101

I've installed the program but can't seem to get the media server to work.

However I start the server (either from inside media centre or directly) I just set the icon showing it is running but no access to the control screen to change settings or start sharing.  Right clicking on this icon does not give that option either.

With the server running my MP 101 still reports no server found (all firewalls etc. turned off)

Any ideas ?

Also can the media server run as a service ? It's something I'm looking for as many family members use the PC and I want to have the media server running all the time.

Thanks,
Stephen

Try "Library Server"

Media Center Does Not Have A "Media Server"

And "Library Server" Is not compatable with "Media Server"

Media Server returned in this week's builds.  It starts up enough of MC11 to run the "serverlets", Library Server, TiVo Server, and the UPnP Server.

Once you've started it from MC's tools, you can configure the UPnP Server in MC's tree under plug-ins.

Me Too!

Does this mean we will be able to run the Media Server as a service as well?

Thanks

Listening to: 'Do It for Love' from 'World of Sheena Easton, The' by 'Sheena Easton'

I was in germany at the time this song was playing, and it played on AFRTS. I Recorded it on Video Tape. It took about 13 years to find out who sang it and what the name of the song was.

If you like songs the express love you you may like this one.

I think we've got some problems with MC11's servers right now.  We'll fix them next week.

I had a conversation with a record company a week ago that got me thinking about reviving the music01 project where people could stream from each other's libraries.  The cost of doing it might be reasonable if it used playlists.

where people could stream from each other's libraries.

the output of the stream should have an adjustment from the server so that the server admin can adjust the stream? (32kbps, 56kbps, 128kbps etc...)

a area (web page) to see what server is online, i am guessing like it was 3 years or so ago would be what your looking at.

what would a user who is running a server get?

maybe count the amount of data taken from his server, and offer download streams at a discounted price since he provided content for the service? so if his site was up 24\7\31 days in the month and 1 gig was streamed the cost to him maybe $5, and not the $10 (or what ever)

would this mean each file would need to be digitaly fingerprinted? this way money can be paied out to the copyright holder.

a way to measure the quality of the file would be nice not just on KBPS but on any errors in the media file, no errors=Best, then Very good, good, ok, bad

a way for a user to filter out lower quality media files, i for one would not want to hear a bad file.

a top hits play list "J River Radio" and the top picks of what it played by users would hit the "J River Radio" play list

buy a stream? where a user who listened to the stream could then buy it and it could be then converted to a useable media file (MP3) so it can be passed to a mp3 player? or burned to a data CD?

a way to filter out slow connections? i would not want to download something from a user with a 300 baud modem.

maybe a new thread?

with this new media server does this mean we do not need to keep media center loaded?

Yes, but let us work a few kinks out of this next week before explaining what it is we're doing.

I am chiming in on this too.  I have just installed MC11 and tried to get it to work with my new MP101 and all I get is: No Server Found.

I have the newest firmware and have tried both wired and wireless but still no go. (No firewalls, etc).

It does work with the NETGEAR Media Server, but I have 30,000 songs and that server leaves much to be desired.

Can someone go through the steps to get the MC11/MP101 combo to work?

Looking forward to some chatter on this.  I am hoping it is something I did wrong!

Is the server started (it's not by default)?

Go to the plugins portion of the tree, click on UPnP server, and it should have some info there if it is started. If it is started, there should be info saying what kind of connections it's getting from the MP101. What do they say?

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll wait a week and then try again.

I'm looking forward to getting this working. Have been using MC10 for a while and have been very happy with it.

Have been using MP101 for the same period of time and like most users am still searcing for a stable server that does everything I need.

If MC11 can drive my MP101's  (two of) and run as a service it will be great (and I'll be happy to plug it on the MP101 boards

When I start M11 and look at UPnP plugin, there is no info, which seems to indicate that server had not started.  Next, I press Start  Server button and this is what I get:

03/14/05 07:13:09 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.11 starting...
03/14/05 07:13:11 - Server running on address 192.168.1.101, port 1122
03/14/05 07:13:11 - Running

Next, I start my MP101 from a cold start and this is what I get:

1. It acquires an IP address of 192.168.1.104 from a wired network, Submask
255.255.255.0

2. It searches for servers and returns with: No Server Found

Any ideas
