MC11 crash on play
« on: May 12, 2005, 08:44:39 am »

I select a playlist, click the play button in the top pane. MC crashes every single time, sometimes with no warning, other times with the "Media Center has encountered a problem..." dialog.

That is followed by another message box stating: The instruction at "0x7d62a877" refererenced memory at "0x05f90048". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I can provide a debug report if requested.

Try an uninstall, reboot, re-install.

Please provide more details.  What's in the playlist?  Does it crash with any playlist?  How about playing other files.

The problem has mysteriously gone away. I went into the Library Browser, clicked to play  selection and MC crashed. The next time I restarted it, I went back to Library Browser and tried again. This time it worked, and clicking Play in the playlist pane also now works properly.

During the time it was "broken" I observed that:
- MC would crash with any playlist, smart or static.
- Right-clicking a playlist name and selecting Play from the popup menu worked properly.

While it is possible to regard this problem as resolved for now, it is my experience (as a software developer) that problems that go away by themselves tend to come back by themselves....

I spoke too soon. While listening, I simply clicked a playlist name and MC crashed. After that, the Play button in the playlist top pane caused MC to crash. Oddly enough, I repeated the steps listed in the previous post (using the Library Browser) and MC fixed itself again.

I will try the uninstall as soon as I can but it will still be a little while.

Could you turn on all logging, and email a log to matt at jriver.com after a crash?  It may help us see where the problem is.

Thanks.
