Saving Database (v11)
« on: May 14, 2005, 03:52:23 am »

Everytime i start up a new video, the database saves. It cuts into the vid (jerky) for about 5-10secs.

When sending files into MC (drag and drop), it will do this also. It saves the database before it's even done importing and then saves it again it seems.

This is probably the slowest thing about MC.
Library size is about 100MB.

You shouldn't be having the "Saving Database" UI freeze.  Check out this thread for the cause and a solution.  It is related to having MC's Library (the database itself) on a network share/drive.

You can have the media files on a network drive, but not the MC database (if you do it causes this problem).

ALL of mine is on a Local Drive . .

Hmmm.  Is the local drive particularly slow (maybe UDMA33 or something)?  Does it have DMA disabled?  External?  (Also, what are your general system specs?)

Your problem could be completely different, but I had exactly the same problem, and as soon as I moved the library files onto my fast internal drive, it went away completely.  I never even SEE it say "Saving Database" anymore (I'm sure it does, but it's so quick I don't notice it).

Could you turn on database logging and see what database file is slow to save?

Thanks.

Under the Help menu, select Configure Debug Logging..., check Output to a log file and Database from types of events.

This will generate a log file located at C:\Documents and Settings\current user\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Log.txt

Email the log file to either me, Jim or Matt (referencing this thread) and we'll take a look at it.

Thanks,

Rick
