Tagging problem on playing files

...tagging tasks take place in the background meaning you can continue using MC after starting the task.

there is a problem in there somewhere involving the fact that the changes are applied to the database immediately, and then the files are brought synced with the database in the background.

If you attempt anything that involves a tag update on files still in the previous job queue, you will run into problems. My advice is not to perform any tagging tasks on files that are playing, or likely to be played, while the current job is in progress.

Culled this gem from the reviews. It's possibly been brought up here before but i don't recall atm.

How does one know if a file is in any job queue ?

If i do any tagging, is it reasonable to expect that the tags have been written when MC says its done. This seemed a reliable indicator in MC 10. I usually wait for this to conclude before doing anything else.

Are you saying marko that, job completion isn't apparent in MC 11.

It's fine to tag files still in the background queue.  MC will properly handle this and update the files.

Are all files on a local drive?  Any network drive involved?

the rename from props will take some time to complete as it will involve moving all the .ape files to a different drive.

..Ahh that's the clincher. You are changing filenames as well. I was under the impression that we were talking tag updates only (file appends if u wirte back to the file). You also mention changing filenames when the file is playing, hoo boy.

I now recall vaguely that they wanted to allow users to do this many months back. No matter how well JRiver programmed it, i would never attempt the above with any software, just sounds like a dangerous move, a one way trip to never never land.

Admittedlly i don't change filenames around too much and if needed, force myself to be patient. Try to do so in batches of 100 or so and hope it goes ok, especially if filenames are involved.
