Zero duration - no burn
« on: August 19, 2005, 07:40:33 am »

All of my songs report zero duration when sent for burning so no burn takes place as they are seen as 'Less then minimum duration'.

They all play and the elapsed time displays the duration.

What's going on?

What's the source of the files?  A CD, for example?

What type of files?

That was quick.

The files are in my library. It's all 9000 odd of them.

MP3s.

Thanks Jim.

An update:

I just 'synched' some of the files to another PC that have set to be a handheld, imported them into MC and they report duration correctly and burn fine. So, the files would seem to be alright.

What next?

Reboot?  Reinstall?

I don't know.  It's odd.

Hi Jim,

Here's an update.

This is very strange. I have re-installed using .312. Still the same.

If I browse to the files in My Computer, still within MC, the duration shows up, I can select the file and burn it.

If I choose the same file in Media Libray there is no duration and it won't burn.

I have deleted a file and then re-imported with the same result.

Where to next?

Thanks for your help.

Try removing a few from the library and importing them again.

I really don't know.

Hi Jim, I want to give you an update on this.

Removing and re-inporting several files made no difference.

I was about to uninstall and then reimport my library when I decided to give 'Update Library from tags' a try.

It worked!

The tags were clearly OK, as supported by the fix and them being OK on another machine. What mystifies me is how this occured in the first place.
How could the library lose just the duration tag for every file and yet report the duration correctly in the progress bar? Is duration for the purposes of progress calculated rather than being from the tag? When burning (attemtping to) it was reporting the total time correctly.

You've never heard of it and I guess there's a first time for everything.

Thanks for your support.

I had a similar problem and did the same as you and it fixed it.

recently i imported about 100 mpeg 2.5 files that do not play well on media center, some of them also had a duration problem (like it was blank).
