Audio bug? - or: MC shoots at me...
« on: August 29, 2005, 02:25:21 pm »

I had this bug a longer time ago, then ist was gone and since the last few builds it's back again. I'll try to describe it:

I listen to a song mp3 192kbit then want to here another one and I choose a mp3 file with e.g. 64 kbit (I know, nobody should have such files, but... I do  :-X ). Then MC starts playing the new one, but the old one stays skipping in a very very short intervall in the background (sounds like a machine gun). The only way to stop this sound is, to close MC (or mute the speaker  ;) ). Stop has no effect on the "Machine Gun"-Sound. It always happens when MC has to go from a "high"-Bitrate (>=102kbit) mp3 file to a "low"-Bitrate (<102kbit) mp3 file.

It also happens between to video files, but then MC stops shooting (Machine gun) after about 1 second.

Any ideas? Thanks for support!

Hm, nobody who uses low-Quality mp3s or nobody who can confirm this bug?

I guess the files have different sample rates and you have enabled the Gapless or Cross-fade track switching in Playback Settings. Try setting the sample rate to constant 44.100 kHz in DSP Studio > Output Format.

However, I don't understand how the video files can be affected with this, because MC uses DirectX for outputting them. You didn't mention what is your soundcard. You could try to reinstall and/or update its drivers.

I tried this on my PC. MC handled the situation perfectly without any resampling. I tried all playback options with ~250 kbps/44.1 kHz VBR files and 56 kbps/22.05 kHz CBR files.

It seems that your problem is elsewhere.

I've got a "CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device" Onboard Sound Card. And I have cross-fade enabled.

I tried what you said and... it works! I set sample rate to 44100kHz and nothing changed. Then also I set bitdepth to 16bit and MC likes me again :-)

But I still have two files wich making the "machine gun" sound. Perhaps more, but I don't find any more at this time.
