Burning problems
« on: September 12, 2005, 02:50:22 pm »

Hi there, hope somebody can help me out here.

I originally had MC10 installed and working fine, then suddenly i was unable to burn CDs with it.

I decided to upgrade to MC11 to fix the problem, but still get the same error.

The error that comes up is...

Erro writing pre-gap
Unknown Error
Device Codes: 255, 87, 0

I've tried googling for an answer, but still no luck and i'm pulling my hair out trying to get it to work.

Can anybody offer any advice?

Thanks

Did you update Easy CD Creator or update Windows when the problem began?

We've had problems in the past with other burning programs having too tight a grip on the drive.

I definitely didn't update Easy CD Creator.   I generally like to keep up to date with patches for Windows when they are released so i'm not caught out by any worms/vulnerabilities, etc.

I'm reasonably sure the only patches would have been via Windows Update, but it's a reasonable length of time ago since it stopped burning so i wouldn't be able to tell if there was any patching done that might have caused the problem.

If MC was working and then it stopped, something changed on your system OR you're doing something you weren't before.  What are you trying to burn (file formats, location, etc.) and what steps do you take to do it?

I'm trying to burn both mp3 and ogg music files.  To do the burn i select 'Burn CD' in the action window, choose 'audio', then next.  I highlight the file i want, and drag it onto the 'Drop files here' text.  I press the 'Burn' button to begin, and then 'yes' to continue.  Even if i tell it to do a test burn it gives me the same result.  The location i'm trying to burn from is j:\music\artist\album

I'm guessing something changed on my system, as this is the same procedure i used to use.

It may be the ogg decoder.  Try burning two MP3 files.

Burning the 2 mp3 files gives the same result.

Did you try reinstalling MC?  Uninstall both MC10 and MC11, reboot, reinstall one.

Unfortunately that was how i did my MC11 install.  I thought that might have cured it, but no such luck.
