This is my first time using MC so please be detailed.

Bug:
MC crashes while ripping, no error-message

Cause/history:
First I thougth it was my FLAC plug in, then I thought it was because I inadverently might have installed FLAC for an older MC version.. I uninstalled MC and with all default options, with a few exceptions, re-installed FLAC. Same problem.
To reduce the variables, I changed to MP3, all standard settings, but still it crashed after ripping for a while.

Finally, I went to the advanced ripping options and changed speed from MAX to 1 and from secure to normal... no crashes.

Conclusion:
After putting speed back to MAX, still without crashes, and after ripping with FLAC, my conclusion is that, on my system at least, choosing the "secure" option causes the program to crash.

Additional system info:
system is a DELL Inspiron 4150 laptop.

The short fix for me is to use "normal" when ripping, but since I am in the process of ripping my entier CD collection into FLAC, I'd rather only have to do it once, and I dont want to risk a scratched cd to crud my ripp up!

I might just use EAC to rip and MC as the player, but I'm lazy... and MC at least have some support for automatic looking up and tagging CD's.

Try turning off simultaneous rip and encode.

I don't know if this helps anything, but you could try this ASPI driver: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe. It may work better than the default XP driver.

Thanks, but I took the trouble of setting up EAC and even though ripping now works in MC, I, for the time beeing, dont see any reason to not use EAC.

Thanks for swift and informed replies, I'm looking forward to purchasing MC soon, after getting sick and tired of Music Match not fixing a stupid bug that keeps launching the error report window.. (They've had it for over a year now...)
