Media Center 11.1.86 Beta
« on: December 20, 2005, 05:30:01 pm »

This is a beta version of MC 11.1.  It will work with the same MC11 license that 11.0 uses.  Please post only bugs here.  Anything requiring discussion should go in a new thread.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

PRICES for MC11.0 and 11.1 are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

The public release version of Media Center 11.0 is available here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html (recommended for new users)

This latest build of MC11.1 Beta is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter111086.exe

11.1.86 (12/20/05)

1. Changed: Revised the library header bar.
2. Changed: Removed the "All" media shortcut below the search box.
3. Changed: View schemes no longer auto-expand when clicking on them in the tree.
4. Changed: Library views only preserve last view mode (Files, Genres, etc.) when using the back button -- otherwise they revert to "Files".
5. Optimized: Increased speed of many of the iPod plugins internal workings.
6. Fixed: iPod album artwork could get out-of-step after using the iPod enough.
7. Changed: When viewing at the root of a library scheme, Ctrl+F no longer jumps to a different scheme, instead it just focuses the search box.
8. Changed: Updated to the latest LAME for MP3 encoding. (do Help > Check For Updates... to get the latest)
9. Fixed: Media Center shutdown could be delayed by Podcast download operations.
10. Fixed: pcast: URLs were copied with extra slash characters during one-click subscription.
11. Fixed: Shell extensions would fail to work when MC wasn't running and very large numbers of files were operated on.
12. Fixed: Download Manager was not working properly.

11.1.84 (12/19/05)

1. NEW: Added function FormatFileSize(...) to the expression language to make a file size readable.
2. Fixed: The encoding options page allowed the user to type in the encoding type selection box.
3. Fixed: In some cases, the undo logging (undo / redo) could catch internal file changes and additions.
4. Fixed: With the "File Properties" Action Window minimized, previous changes could get saved to new selections in rare cases.
5. Changed: Reduced the minimum column width allowable.
6. Changed: Tuned the rating column default and auto-size width.
7. Fixed: Volume adjustment iPod option should no longer occasionally appear behind MC.
8. Changed: Media Center properly detects the media type of files on a WMDM device instead of assuming they're audio. (may require device reinitialize)
9. Changed: Portable Media Center style devices support images when appropriate.
10. NEW: Added the ability to play WM Professional content as a bitstream (for S/PDIF or ASIO output). (Plugin Manager > Input > WMA > Configure...)
11. Fixed: Renaming some tree items could cause the name to appear in the tree twice until a refresh. (F5)
12. Changed: Switched default skin tree expand image to arrows instead of plus boxes. (can be changed per skin by a skinner in the "Tree" section)
13. Changed: Media modes act as "home run" type links that collapse the tree and show the selected item, but they no longer filter the tree.
14. NEW: Previous log file is saved to "Previous Log.txt" on next MC run.
15. Changed: Reworked default view scheme layout. (use Edit > Reset All View Schemes... to revert to what a fresh install would have)

11.1.83 (12/16/05)

1. NEW: Added ability to select sorting for library grouping views using "View" dropdown. (saves per tab and per view scheme)
2. Changed: The root of the library view navigation history only shows as a link when filtering into a tile.
3. Fixed: "Customize Current View" settings for files at bottom lists in library tile views weren't sticking.
4. Changed: After an import, the actual "Recently Imported" or "Recently Ripped" playlist is shown instead of Media Library with a search filtering to that playlist.
5. Fixed: When switching tracks non-playlist / Playing Now views wouldn't update right away to show the new playing file.
6. Changed: Selections from the files at bottom list of library groupings views now fire to the rest of the program. (for Action Window viewing, statusbar, library tools, etc.)
7. Changed: TV files use the video icon instead of the document icon in file lists.
8. Fixed: The UPnP Server would crash during playback for D-Link DSM-320.
9. Fixed: The rip action window and rip file list wouldn't stay in sync when toggling check boxes for what tracks to rip.
10. NEW: Podcast one-click subscriptions.  You can now subscribe to podcasts by clicking on links prefixed pcast: podcast: or suffixed .pcast .podcast .rss.
11. Changed: The check-boxes in the rip list work more logically when selecting multiple files and then hitting a check.
12. Changed: Tuned some of tree and list icons.
13. Fixed: Thumbnails were not working properly when connecting to Library Server.
14. Fixed: Audible downloads were not integrating into Media Center's UI.

New Features in MC 11.1
Podcasting support
Much improved handheld support for iPod, PlayforSure devices, and many others
Configurable locations for all media types on handhelds
iPod Shuffle and Nano support
Album art on iPods that support it
Automatic backup of library
Directshow support for AAC files
Much faster handling of thumbnail images (requires one-time rebuild of thumbnails)

I've lost a few features (or at least cant find them in the latest builds):

How do I create a filter for FILENAME(PATH) ?
How do I create a filter for a section of text (any files containing space colon dash space)?
How do I create a new root media group (images, video, documents, MINE)?

Thanks,
Drosoph

Initializing ipod doesn't reset the artwork folder.
The artworkdb and the 2 ithmb files still have considerable size.
Should initializing the device delete these, or at least shrink the artworkdb back to it's initial 1 KB in size?

1.
When scrolling through the tiles with the arrow keys, if the page needs to be scrolled down, then the very bottom white space gets filled with the tiles from the previous row. They are of course unselectable. Just a cosmetic/drawing bug.

2.
Media scheduler isnt working properly. I set it to wake me up with an episode of south park (I set media scheduler to use a playlist at a certain time) but got woken up by a hitchcock movie. (I think media scheduler is putting the whole video library into playing now).

3.
Clicking on "List view: Details" in the library browser view doesnt do anything unless you click on the files list at the bottom first. This should be unnecessary.

4. (not a bug report)
I dont like the grey titles in the tiles. I'd prefer to see a random thumbnail right away. (and resizable tiles)

The Audio/Images/Video selection below the search field are no longer sticking.  When you select Audio, for instance, the subsequent tree contains ALL options, including Audio, Images, Video and All & Other and the Audio icon is not highlighted as you would expect.

Still get windows crash on explorer folder->right click->media center->import

Tag Info 'visible columns' still tied to the Files view in view scheme.

View schemes not being remembered, eg I select Artist view for one of my schemes, select another scheme, come back to the previous scheme and it has reverted to Files view.

When you drill down in the view scheme to an artist, eg

(Albums): Artistsv  > Pink Floyd Albums

There is no way to get back to the Artist view.

1. 'get cover art from internet' seems to have stopped working (tried several popular albums - e.g. 'The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead', 'Police - Outlandos D'Amor', 'Kate Bush - Lionheart / The Dreaming / Never For Ever', 'Miles Davis - many albums', + others.

2. view not remembered on re-start - always starting in 'All & Other'

3. on mouseover artist in 'artists' view, the albums cycle if they have cover art - can this be extended so that albums without art also cycle (just displaying album name with artist name)

4. changing the view selection to a drop-down seems a step backwards to me - more clicking and mousing required - I'd much prefer having them available as single click options

5. it seems 'view by genre' has been removed from thumbnail mode - can we have it back please? :)

If you transfer an album to a Zen PMC and the album name has certain characters (&, :, etc) then the album "grouping" is lost on the PMC and the tracks appear at the album level in the PMC browser.

I am not sure I am following the issue here. Either that or I am unable to replicate it. When I transfer a track where the Album has a ':' in it , it appears correctly under Albums.

I just tried again with .84; The Album is "Cello Concertos : Ofra Harnoy" and the track names are like "Cto for Cello in D Minor: Allegro".  The transfer is converting from WAV to WMA (high quality).  I am dragging the entire album to the "Handheld player" window and then doing the transfer.

When I browse to the "Classical" genre on the PMC, I see the album name repeated 16 times (one for each track transfered).  Selecting each "album name" shows one track (the first track under the first name, etc).

Same behavor for .86

As a note, if you explore the PMC using the windows browser, the tracks of the album in question are in the appropriate directory artist\album\tracks on the device.   It is just the display of the album on the PMC that is 'broken'.

Imported playlists show up empty. The playlist titles get imported but they do not list any tracks. If I drag the *.m3u from my disk into MC's playlist entry then the tracks show up.

After MC finds a cd not found in the database

I entered the info for the cd

mc then stated updating the view and came back with another screen for me to enter data on a not found CD.

i aborted that menu

and then tried to look up the cd on yadb and it was there

so for some reason MC is showing a user the fill in CD info twice for no reason.

The CD Was Trance[]Control "The.demo.cd"

First crack with the new combined browser as I have had no Inet access for a bit.  Couple of things I have noticed...I get this in a view scheme - album (sorteds)  It is a calculated field called Album (sorted)... don't think it needs the extra s :)

One other thing...there is a sort by date for the tiles but it sorts by most recent first.  I like to have my albums sorted date order earliest to latest.  Could this be added?

I'll post more comments when I have got my teeth into the enw design.

if you look just above your album artist column you will see an audio files pulldown menu, that is where your library browser buttons are.

Two thoughts on this.  It needs some kind of quick and easy toggle to switch between files and graphical view.  Possibly at the right end of the View Header bar.  Secondly there needs to be some way to fix a view scheme to start in the graphical mode.  Preferably all current options could be configurable on a per VS basis e.g. I could have a standard files scheme, a graphic scheme just showing covers, a graphic scheme showing covers and files etc.
As it stands there is nothing there currently that replicates Library browser out of the box as it were.  By defaulting to Files this functionality is lost.  Some users prefer the covers straight away some prefer the details. Before there was a choice of startup style.  currently there is not.

I see. The button removal was not mentioned in the change log.

It needs some kind of quick and easy toggle to switch between files and graphical view.

I think the buttons were that toggle.

Cover Art is messed up in this build.  It is impossible to remove cover art images and when clicking on find in folder MC does nothing.

Matt,

The files im talking about are vbr mp3 files. They worked fine about 3 builds ago when adding cover art. However, before, they were WMA files. About 3 days ago I finished a massive re-ripping process and those were the last on the list. I have about 12 Chinese CDs and 11 of them begin with Chinese characters in the album name. None of those files will apply their cover art. I have a folder.jpg in the folder with the files and I also have a file in the cover art folder with the proper naming structure. THe files will recognize neither. I also had problems ripping them in build 83. MC would not initialize the ripping process at all. I had to use EAC to rip them and then import them into MC.

Chances are it's a mixed (data + audio) CD right? We use the CD volume serial number to lookup in the cdplayer.ini file. Other ripping programs calculate the disk id differently, at least for mixed CD's. I tried three different popular ripping apps and they all used different numbers. If you substitute the volume serial number for whatever EAC used for disk ID in the cdplayer.ini file, MC will find and use it. If you do a "dir" command from a command (dos) window on the CD, you'll see the volume serial number (remove the dash).

Imported playlists show up empty. The playlist titles get imported but they do not list any tracks. If I drag the *.m3u from my disk into MC's playlist entry then the tracks show up.

Try the next build.  (11.1.87)
