love media center 11 plus one request
« on: December 24, 2005, 03:21:56 am »

Love the program!
I just got 4,000 CD's ripped in lossless format, about 1.1 terabytes of music, 55,000 files.  Media Center 11 is perfect for dealing with a library of this size, whereas WMP is brought to its knees.

One request -- I use two different path/file naming schemes, one scheme for classical, and aonther scheme for everything but classical.  The "Rename Files From Properties" feature is great for me, because I can tweak the tag data and then Media Center does the right thing.  However, I'd really like to be able to save both schemes, and possibly other schemes, and have them all accessible, vs having to remember which scheme I have loaded at any given time.

Thx!

I agree this would be a nice feature.  I want to save my video
files in a different place from my audio files using a different
scheme.  To select between several would be fantastic =)

Ideally we could then set a scheme as default for video, audio etc

Add it to my new years wish list!

Great idea  :)

I always get fustrated when I have to switch the properties for each file type, but then forget to request this feature b/c i'm so used to it the old way.

Please consider this request!!  :P

post both the the filename and the path strings here and, as long as the files are going to the same drive, we can knock you out an expression that renames one way or another, depending on whether or not the genre is classical. then you won't need to worry which one is currently loaded.
I keep my pictures, video and music on the same drive atm, and use a single rename template to cover the various naming methods for my different media types. All I do for any renaming task is launch the tool and click on the OK button.
also...
did something here change with 11.1?

last time I looked, if you clicked on the arrow to the to the left of "Rule:" one of the options displayed is "presets" and if you expand that, you should see all of your previous searches listed?

lol I'd never realised Presets were actually recent rules!
I thought they were Preset by JRiver!

Presets remembering previous search strings must be new in 11.1, its not there in 11.0

Marko -- thanks for the response; here's what I'm using now:

For all music of all genres, base path is:
R:\Music\

For everything but classical:
[Genre]\[Album Artist (auto)]\[Album]
[Album Artist (auto)] - [Album] - [Track #] - [Name]

For classical:
[Genre]\[Composer]\[Album]
[Composer] - [Album] - [Track #] - [Name]

I do see the thing you mentioned where the "Presets" keep the older specifications around for easy access, which is great, but the expression technique you mention would be ideal since it would be automatic.

Thanks...!

audio is assumed....

if(isequal([genre],classical,1),[genre]\[composer]\[album],[genre]\[album artist (auto)]\[album])

if(isequal([genre],classical,1),[composer] - [album] - [track #] - [name],[album artist (auto)] - [album] - [track #] - [name])

these two will work for you.
