Evillyrics
« on: February 14, 2006, 09:24:32 pm »

Can anybody help me to make evillyrics work with media center?  I FAR prefer it to the plugins available here.  No setup involved with winamp or media player (MS)... and it displays the whole song in a easy format.  HELP!  (please) -Thomas

Not much to go on there.
Is the program open source or provide an interface to it's calls?
I couldn't find any information on this other than
a link for developers of media players like JRiver allowing them to
make the player compatible with evillyrics.

Do you code yourself?
What does EvilLyrics require from the plugin?
What do you mean by no setup is involved, how
can you add any program or plugin without a setup?
(I guess you could mean it's an automatic setup)

Alternatively what do you dislike about the plugins here?
Kingsparta's Lyric Finder is pretty good in my opinion, although
a tad slow if you've got lots of stuff.   Maybe there's extra
functions you would like to see on it though?

I've sent an email to EvilLyrics to see
what exactly would need to be done.
Not saying I'll do it, but even if I don't, it's
then open to someone else.
By the look of it I'd guess it could be an extension to one
of the PlayingNow plugins.

Let me know, if they wish maybe i can modify the plug-in to include there server.

the slowness can be:

1. Programs like norton internet security
2. internet speed of the users ISP
3. internet problems
4. demand on the server
5. interaction with MC and the plug-in (it takes about .5 seconds or less to get info from MC and transfer it to the plug-in)
6. time for the plug-in to parse the info and make a url to download.
7. some users are still using a older version. the new one on the site takes 1\2 the time as the older version.

Hi Chris

EvilLyrics has an simple COM interface (undocumended) ... here's the VB6 sample of how it can be accessed.
If it's not clear i can explain better how it works or if it's not accessible at all, there are other ways to send info to EvilLyrics ... just let me know it there's any problem

regards
Marek

If someone can give me some idea of how I might get the playing now
track title and artist I could probably produce a plugin for this in under
10 minutes.

Well I tried what your thinking, and what happens is if there is a FTP\Http connection within MC\MJ It will delay the play of the song and will make MC non responsive.

I figured it out once, not sure i still have the code however.

Maybe

boolean GetPreviousFile()

Description: gets the index of the file to play on "Previous"
Return Value: index of file

boolean GetCanPlayNext()

Description: Determine if there is another file to play after the currently playing file
Return Value: true only if there is one

If I may say so.... REGARDLESS of the outcome, thanks so much for all those involved, who have taken their personal time on this.  I left Microsoft Windows Media Player for lack of .ape support... I left Winamp because it doesn't like multi-user XP systems... and I was getting frustrated with JRiver because of the  lyrics plugin.  But I'll be the first to say I'm amazed at the quality of the updates and user forum.  Thanks guys.  -Thomas

Why At JRiver?

They Don't Have A Lyrics Plug-In.

And What Is Wrong With It?

The only plugin I found was from SpartaSoft.... and the problem is that the way it displays.... it only shows as much of the song as will fit on the screen.  Evillyrics is set up to do cool things like scroll along with the song (Karaeoke (sp?) style)... allow you to upload lyrics, or correct those that are wrong (on the fly)... and upload karaeoke (not that I care about karaeoke, but I like that it keeps your place in the song).

Stimpco:
I think EvilLyrics and Kings plugin are doing two slightly different things.
*Kingspartas Plugin is a full server search system, combined with a cool
plugin allowing lots of batch stuff and everything. All pretty clever, and alot
of work gone into it.

*EvilLyrics is more about the current playing track, one at a time type thing, although it can update the lyrics as it goes along. (Like the playing now type plugins)

I'll post the plugin in a few minutes, just checking a few things.

KingSparta is also one of the fine human beings who make Interact so special.  He's created a lot of plug-ins for MC, sometimes taking people's requests and turning them into real software.  Not an easy job.

Plus, he has a really cute pup.

And, if you ever have a pest problem, you can probably get free advice.  Unless you live anywhere in North Carolina, in which case, he will have to charge.

KingSparta is in the JRiver Media Center Hall of Fame, which will open soon in an undisclosed location.  The wax figure is Really Life Like.
