CD drive crash
« on: March 14, 2006, 12:07:35 pm »

major crash when inserting cdrw disc with images while playing music. I have options set to do nothing when a cd is inserted, doesn't seem to matter, it sent me to a blue screen crash after a lengthy pause. took 2 reboots to get it running again ( 1 in safe mode) . windows major crash alert popup. I have had this happen several times, usually while viewing a movie or listening to music and I insert a disc and it just about freezes up, then after a while its ok.

That is probably a hardware issue unrelated to MC.  Double check the configurations of all your drives.

If it were mine, I'd buy a new drive if I couldn't solve the problem.

Blue screens are hardware / driver issues.

Check your cabling and bios settings.

Out of 4-5 years i think i seen a blue screen 4 or 5 times

with windows 95-98 i seen that many in one day.

the problems sometimes I have found that when you install something it does not tend to un-install all the files\drivers that may continue to slow down a system and sometimes may cause conflicts. Mostly Video, and CD drive utilities.

When looking at the Processes Thru the Process manager i found many files still loading on start up that should have been un-installed. i had to manually deactivate, and then delete the files.

Watch out also for things like Nero In-CD.
That used to cause havoc on my machine in XP,
mainly because I had a slightly old CDRW.
I think In-CD changes the underlying cd drivers or something similar.
