Streaming DVDs
« on: March 26, 2006, 01:33:37 am »

I'm looking for input and ideas as to how others are taking advantage of MCs ability to handle and manage ripped DVDs. Specifically, I currently use MC's Library Server to play music remotely a lot. I'm wondering if/how I can achieve the same thing with my DVDs.

As it stands, MC can't stream the DVDs in their native format (at least it doesn't work for me). Are there any plans to support this? Also, would such plans also support re-encoding on the fly like is available for music?

If the above is not supported, then I assume my only other option is to convert the DVDs (VOBs) to some other format. I've used various tools to do this in the past, but with varying levels of success. What software do others use? What's the best? If possible I'd like to maintain the DVD's original 5.1 sounds, which I believe WMV supports and MPEG does not, but I don't know of a converter that currently handles this. Anyone?

Hello,

I have the same problem and asked several times if it's gonna work in the future...
However I didn't get a clear answer. I have chosen for MC11 because of its features to handle ALL media. But still I would need other programs to handle certain media.

I cannot play my DVD files I stored on hard disks as I do with the music. I invested a lot of money in my computers (10 HD in a server like computer) so it could be used through the whole house. But if I want to play a DVD through the server it can't be played. However when I click the -ifo file in windows explorer it does play the DVD.

Don't get me wrong: I love MC11 for my music files. And I don't mind having to wait some longer as long as MC will deal with the other media later on.

I even don't mind paying some extra money!

So I hope w'll get an answer soon about this issue.

Best regards,

I asked this question a while back, and I never got a real answer either.  If MC could play ripped DVDs from the library server, I would be a very happy camper.  Like you, I would pay extra for that as well.
