Can MJ halp me fix the mess I made :-)
« on: September 20, 2002, 09:03:29 am »

OK I posted this over on the Monkeys forum as it is more relevent there but I am looking for a fast answer so here goes.... This is caused by my EAC / MA use but is evident in my MJ import...

Well I had just embarked on some major ripping... Thought I had my EAC / MA settings down but evidently not... I currently have 3 networked machines all ripping at once (just had broadband reconnected) so I am churning through albums by the minute... I have done about 30 in the last couple of hours...

I just imported some into Media Jukebox and realized the track order is only alphabetically by track name (screwing up my 01 - Trackname sequence... ) and further looking shows I have track names of 0 in all the track fields but the track # is in the comment field of the tag ? ! ? ! ?  In the comment it is listed as 'Track - 01' etc...

The filename is Num - Trackname eg \Jimmie Cliff\Higher and Higher\01 - Higher and Higher.APE but the import detects (correctly) only the name and orders by name alphabetically....

So firstly to stop this continueing, is this an EAC setting or a MA command line setting I have ballsed up ??

Also anyway to batch convert this as I have possibly 30 albums ripped in the last couple of hours and would like a way to rebuild the tags from the info thats there already ?? Can I copy the Track - 01 comment field and make that alphanumeric field purely a numeric track num ??

Thanks in advance... quick answers really welcome as the album list gets longer fast !!!

Check how you have sorting set in MJ under tree/view.

Tried that... However it seems it is a real bugger....

The way it has saved track inside the comment field is Track - 1 to Track - 9 and then Track 10.... EG it did not preceed the single digits with a 0x !!!

So when I sort on comment I get track 1 10 11 12 etc...

I suspect I could import and ignore tags but that would create its own hell too...

I was hopeing for a convert field x to x ability ?

I'm not sure I'm on the same page, but two things:

1) the "fill properties from filename" tool may bail you out

2) use the dll version of MAC in EAC, not the exe version

Hope that helps...

Yeah, like Matt said...

Use Fill Properties from Filename with a rule of

Directory : [ARTIST]\[ALBUM]

Filename : [TRACK #]-[NAME]

and that should do the trick.

OK well I have debugged how to stop it from here on in... I am still using MAC.EXE should I switch to the DLL ?? If so any particular reason ??

I needed to include a setting in EAC -> Compression -> Lat Tab (Tagging) which was to use BOTH idv1.1 and IDv2 tags...

Still need to fix the ones I have done tonight though...

DLL MAC allows on the fly ripping for better performance.

And DO NOT add ID3v2 tags to your APE files -- it will ruin them.

DOH...

And it seemed to work so well... What is 'ruined' about them ?? I have just listened and on my PC speakers there is nothing obvious but I am not downstairs where I can check anything (little 1 inch asatellite jobbies here)...

That fixed the track problems too !!!!  :-/

Is there something we can do in MAC to remove id3v2 tags and replace them with APE tags?

PP,
Did you try ripping with MJ?

Well I am unsure how 'broken'they really are (perhaps  as i am doing 1.1 AND 2.0 tags then MAC only listens to the 1.1 info ??) Either way when I look at the MAC properties after I have a rip using this system it looks fine...

Is the file sonically impared ? I am guessing no...

The tagging looks fine to my layperson eyes....

Tonight I have ripped more than 50 albums (many double too) having 2 real machines and roping in my laptop too when not surfing (yeah whens that ??)... i have alittle tidying to do but my APE library is rapidly growing... I delayed till the broadband was here but now is the time....

Yeah I have tried MJ in the past....

I had more poor rips in the few I used (not enough to make a true test base I fully admit) and was not truly happy with the album artist structural deal (though again am sure I could have set a different system)...

I though I understood APL structures but found out this evening that my assumptions on that was wrong..

Ideally I want a single file for the whole album and a index file to allow nnavigation... like a compressed version of CUE and WAV... I though this is what the 'make APL'tool did but I am buggered if I can get it performing a index that works.. MJ always says please point to the file or similar...

As a compromise tommorow I will use one machine EAC and one MJ and see if I gain another preference...

OK let me just make one last comment on one of the things that failed me before (my better half is calling and its 2AM so I am officially 'outta here')...

When ripping with MJ the Artist is not the CD artist as EAC does it... it tends to find Artists on a track by track basis and break many of my mix albums up... i have seen many people discuss this and options considered but EAC alsways seems to rip \CD Artist\CD Name\Num - Track name With the strings I set up... MJ will make loads of sub folders with 'various' artist albums....

Throw me a clue on that one and I will resume with one MJ machine first thing....

now in the best words of Hitchock... Good Evening....   ;D
