How do I get version 8 back - I am using version 9.
« on: September 16, 2002, 07:33:58 pm »

I upgraded to version 9 and it doesn't work very well.  It has alot of errors and it keeps crashing.  I am not a computer whiz and need something very simple.

I would like to go back to version 8 (that is if JRiver can't give me my version 7 back).  However, when I delete version 9 and try re-loading 8, I get error messages..i.e." you are trying to use a new database that is newer than this version"....something like that.  I can't figure out what exactly this means.  What database should I delete in order to re-load version 8.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of 9 so I can get my version 8 back?

Assuming you're using all of the default settings:

Under C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data you will find 5 files with the .jmd extension. These represent your Media Jukebox database.

They are, in no particular order (except alphabetical in this case)

browser.jmd
curplaylist.jmd
mediafiles.jmd
playlistx.jmd
removable.jmd

Delete these files. If you don't have all of these files, don't panic. It's ok. Just delete the ones you do have. Then fire up MJ8 and you should be good to go. You're going to have re-import all of your files and recreate all of your playlists and such, though.

Mastiff This Warning?

IMPORTANT-- This is only a preview -- some things don't work, some things crash, and your data may not be safe. Don't use this preview with files that can't be replaced. If you don't consider yourself an expert with Media Jukebox, please wait for a later release. Backup your database (and files) before doing anything else.

In restoring my version 8, the download says:  cannot locate mjextman.exe.

OK, now what do I do?

Please e-mail me at:  ymccallister@attbi.com

Thanks.

When exactly are you getting that message? And what exactly does it say?

Doof,

I deleted the files you suggested, except I didn't have the "browser.jmd file.  Then I uninstalled version 9.

Went to the restore page for version 8, put in my registration code.  It began the download, and said it was searching for mjextman.exe.

So, I couldn't get the download.
