Download problem
« on: June 26, 2006, 02:22:16 pm »

I've downloaded several times (11.1.188) but I keep getting an error message telling me the installation files are corrupt.  After I dismiss that dialog (the dialog telling me the files are corrupt), the installation "hangs" with a progress meter dialog that says, "Setup is preparing Install Wizard which will guide you through th rest of the setup process.  Please wait."  The progress appears to be 100%.

Any advice as to what to try?

Are you using a download manager?  If so, don't.

I'm clicking on the FTP download link from a Firefox browser.  I'll attempt with IE to see if I get better results and will post back here.

There is also an alternate HTTP link on the download page.

Ok, changing some variables, I got different results.  I pasted the FTP link into IE, downloaded the file and got to the actual install wizard and completed all steps of the wizard to the end.  Now when launching the application, it crashes immediately.

I will attempt the HTTP link you have highlighted in your last reply.

I'm not seeing this HTTP link you are referring to.  If you are referring to this link

Quote
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html

That points to a file labeled as revision .186 (not .188 which indicates is more tolerant of pubDates in Podcast XML data.)

Please advise.

Sounds to me suspiciously like a hardware problem.  Anything overclocked on that system?  Bad RAM or a bad/excessively oc'd CPU can cause similar problems.

FWIW... I use Firefox exclusively and have never had trouble with corrupted downloads of MC (or other stuff for that matter).

If you haven't done so very recently, I'd strongly suggest running a battery of hardware tests as I describe in this thread.  (Most importantly for you the Memtest86 and Prime95 tests.)

Glynor could be right.  Try a reboot also.

You can substitute http:// for ftp:// in the link for 188.

I'm skeptical of the hardware theory only because I was able to successfully download and install .183 last week.  Not ruling out entirely...just not very likely.

Additionally, I cleared out my temp folders and rebooted to no avail.  I haven't tried the HTTP download link yet and now that I know where it is, I'll give that a try.

If it installed without errors, the install is probably OK.

You could try an uninstall, reboot, reinstall.

I finally got it to work.  I remoted to my home computer, downloaded it there, uploaded it to my FTP server and downloaded it to the computer at work.  The install ran over the previous install without errors and the application runs as expected.
