Did you connect audio from the TV card to the sound card using a cable? I believe your AIW128 PRO requires such a connection.

1. Connect the cable.

2. Go to MC TV Options. On Audio tab, make sure "This device requires a cable to route sound directly to the sound card" checkbox is checked, and make sure correct sound card and audio line are chosen.

3. On TV Options, go to Advanced Properties. Double click one of the items that has the word "Crossbar" in it (you may have two such items, try both). On the Output panel choose "Audio Decoder Out". On the Input panel choose "Audio Tuner In". Click OK.

On the back of your sound card there should be a "Line In" connection (usually in blue color?). That is where you should connect the "Audio out" from your TV card.  "Line In" is designed to take external sound, it therefore should not be connected to the motherboard. Are you saying you do not have a "Line in" connection?

For ATI AIW 128PRO, you can also use internal cable, if your sound card has it.

In my previous post
Quote
2. Go to MC TV Options. On Audio tab, make sure "This device requires a cable to route sound directly to the sound card" checkbox is checked, and make sure correct sound card and audio line are chosen.

"correct ... audio line ..." is meant for you to tell the program which line you have connected - the external "Line in" or the internal "Auxiliary".

I too am having this problem ... i.e., no sound from my TV tuner   ?

(1)  But I do get sound from MC11.1(191) when I play MP3s

(2)  ... and I do get sound from ATI's own TV software

(3)  ... and I have tried Yaobing's suggestions in the 2nd post (... although I didn't see the same thing described in advanced & "crossbar" ... please clarify)

Also of note ... I did get sound at one time from MC's TV tuner, but it's now silent.  I did find the set to defaults button which didn't work either.

I'm stumped ....  :P ... please advise

TIA   :)

(3)  ... and I have tried Yaobing's suggestions in the 2nd post (... although I didn't see the same thing described in advanced & "crossbar" ... please clarify)

While in TV View, click Options button to bring up the TV Options dialog. Click "Advanced Properties" tab. You should see a list from which you may find "Video Crossbar..." and possibly "Second Crossbar...". Double click "Video Crossbar..." to bring out the property page. From the dropdown list on the right (Output) select "Audio Decoder out", then from the dropdown list on the left (Input) select "Audio Line In".

Additionally try this:

While TV is playing, right-click the video window to bring up the context menu. choose "TV Options"\"Devices". It lists all your TV devices followed by audio devices. Two items should have check marks, one for your TV tuner device, one for your corresponding sound card. Make sure correct sound card is checked. Even if it has a check mark, select it again.

Yaobing ... thanx for these suggestions, and I apologize for taking so long to get back to this problem ... but I tried these and still no sound.

Yet, my ATI TV software still works normally (except that wont move it's display to my HDTV as 2nd monitor, as well as creating proprietary files).  Additionally, MC11.1.196 MP3 playback is normal, and for both TV and MP3, I can see proper "line/Mic Input Levels" with the Revo software.  It's frustrating ... it should be working!!

Any other suggestions, or information I may be able to provide?

TIA  :)

Try changing channels.

When starting TV in MC12 I get no sound until I change the channel. Thereafter works fine.

I too have no sound in TV with an ATI video card.  I have latest version of MC (12.0.226), and sound works for every other situation in MC--mp3s, videos on HD, etc.  I have a USB wonder.  It works fine in the ATI software.

No one seemed to solve the problem as of yet, so I am curious as to possible solutions...

1. Options -> Audio tab. Uncheck "This device requires a physical cable to route sound directly to sound card".

2. While TV is playing, right-click and choose TV Options -> Devices and select a audio device from the bottom portion of the list. You may need to experiment with different ones if you have more than one. In particular, if you see an "ATI" device, try it.

I have fixed a bug. This should bring back the sound.

I have a Win TV HVR-900.
Bad sound in 120219 and 120222.

Can you describe the "bad sound" a bit more? What kind of problems do you experience?

Have you tried selecting a different audio renderer?

If not please try doing that. Audio renderer selection is outside of TV Options. It is global to all Media Center DirectShow playback, and is found here:

Tools -> Options -> Playback -> DirectShow playback settings ...

The setting is Zone-specific. So you must switch to the zone that you play TV in before going to the option window.

The sound is kind of hacking forward.

I have tried the five Audio renders that I have.

Four gives the sound above. The 5th crash MC; Failed to play TV that is.

I have no sound problem with Hauppauge Win2000.

You are using "Realtek HD Audio input" as your audio capture device. Do you have other devices to choose from? Use Right-Click menu, TV Options -> Devices.

Send me another log file please.

That menu lists both video and audio devices. Two check marks are there, one for video and one for audio.

Also, I just read your log file. The audio is rendered from the video capture device, not from the audio capture device. That make selection of audio capture device irrelevant.

Your device outputs audio from video capture filter. The audio is rendered correctly and outputs audio at 2 channel, 16 bit 48000 samples per sec PCM. So, it should work.

Try these things:

TV Options -> Audio tab. Make sure "Enable Audio Mode Selection (Analog TV Only)" is checked, and "Stereo" is chosen.

TV Options -> Advanced Properties tab. Double click an entry in the list to enter its property pages. Look for anything that is related to audio. For example double click "Video Capture Filter...". It may contain configuration for audio output.

Hi Yaobing,

This is an issue on my laptop too. No sound for the past several versions. I can't remember which was the last working version but over 2 months ago. I have tried all the above suggestions with no success.
I notice that on the volume control when set to internal it goes to mute when the picture starts in TV mode. The BDA drivers for my tuner have recently been upgraded to WHQL I have installed them but it doesn't help. I will post a log file to you.

Thankyou Tangodude

Hi Yaobing

I have now checked Adv Properties under Tv Option.

I find:
Audio Capture Filter...
Video Capture Filter...
Video Crossbar...
TV Turner...
TV Audio...
Deinterlacing...

In Video Capture Filter... I find a tab Video Image with TV Audio, mono checked and Audio Path with USB Path checked.

I can't change anything. Everything is grey.

The sound is still as hacking as before.

Make sure you are actually watching a TV channel when you do that. Some times the options are not available (greyed out) when you are not actually watching a channel.

Tangodude:

Your log file did not contain any TV related data. Please try emailing another one. Make sure you turn on "TV" logging. Also make sure you mail the log file right after running TV (just go to Help -> Logging..., and click "Click to email log files" link). If you close MC and then restart MC, the log info is copied to "Previous Log.txt" (and not in "Log.txt").

The volume control's behaviour is expected. TV currently does not support Internal Volume. It will in the future.

Your log files do contain TV logging info  :D

Still, I not tell from the logs what is wrong. The only thing that is suspicious is that the logs show your device only has mono audio available, no stereo. If your device should have stereo sound, then maybe you need to update your device driver.

Hi Yaobing,
Ok sent new log file with TV info this time
Sorry for the last bloob
Tangodude

Thanks. This time we get something.

On initial look, it seems to be an audio capture device selection problem. Please try this:

While a TV channel is playing, right-click in the video window and click "TV Options" -> "Devices". Do you see two "USB 2881 Device" listed? The first one should be your video capture device which you already selected (has a check mark next to it). Also you selected "SigmaTel C-Major Audio" for audio capture device. Try selecting the second "USB 2881 Device" for audio capture device.

It is unfortunate that they named both audio capture filter and video capture filter identically. If you do not see two "USB 2881 Device" listed, I need to do some fixing.

Sorry, I meant TV capture card driver, not sound card driver.

OK, I'll give it a try.

Hi Yaobing,
I have tried your suggestion, unfortunately it stops the TV from working at all. I have to reset TV settings through TOOLS>OPTIONS>...
I have sent a new log file in the hope that it helps.
Many thanks

I guess it was a bad suggestion. Selecting that audio device caused some serious problem.

Does your device require you to plug a cable from the TV card to your sound card?

Hi Yaobing
This device does not require a cable to get sound, all comes in through the USB port. It has worked with MC albeit with sync issue.
Cheers

OK Yaobing,

Never mind I got at least new drivers to my sound card which solved a minor problem with my headphones.

I have Win XP Media Center 2005 Edition and find two drivers on Hauppage Support.

I don't use Win Media Center.

Could You give me an advice which to use, please.

One is called "Support for Windows XP/Vista Media Center Edition" and the other one "Support for Windows XP/Vista using WinTV".

You find information here http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/support.html

Sorry, I can not give you any advice on that as I do not understand the difference myself. Maybe you can contact Hauppauge.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I still do not understand why selecting "USB 2881 Device" for audio capture device would cause problems. If your device does not require you to plug an audio cable from the TV device to your sound card, then selecting "USB 2881 Device" is the only way to get sound as your video capture filter does not have any audio output.

Maybe there is something wrong with your latest installation of drivers. Could try rolling back the drivers or at least try reinstalling them?

Hi Yaobing,
I hope you still get some fun time while working on MC TV issues. Finally I got some time to do some more checking. I have posted a couple of logs to you. I installed an old Hard Drive back in the laptop and had TV with sound working in MC though it has a sound delay, the second log is with the latest BDA drivers and latest MC version. The third is my normall XP system drive with the latest BDA drivers as suggested on the MC forum. I noticed there is a different name for the audio device on the older system. Maybe the comparison can point to a clue.
Thanks for the help.

I was having same issues as the original post no sound but video for tv. I have a ati tv wonder pro card and sound is linked to my sound blaster audigy card. after messing around with it I found that under tv device/options/advanced tab if I double clicked tv audio and clicked some of the mono/ stereo or language options I had sound. I will note that this did occur after I had already tried the video crosshair change to audio suggestion which did not give me sound. I don't know if it was a combination of changing the crosshair option and the tv audio or just the tv audio option. I hope that this will help someone else resolve this issue in the future.

Sony device could be troublesome as they may not conform to Microsoft specifications. Is this an analog or digital TV device?

Hi all,

I'm a new user running the trial version.  I like what I see, and find it all fairly intuitive - which is the mark of good software!

However, I too have no sound from the TV tuner card - except when I use it in PVR live-pause mode!  So if I'm content to watch a program 10 seconds delayed my sound works fine.  I've added the audio link cable and fiddled with the settings ad infinitum, yet the only sound is when I am in live-pause playback.  I am not using the analogue antenna input yet - only AV from my dish receiver/decoder.

TV card = LEADTEK TV2000XP
Audio card = AOpen AW870LP
OS = Win XP

Any clues what to try next?

Also - How do I set my TV tuner card to "radio tuner mode" from MediaCentre?

Does this device require a cable connecting it to sound card?

If yes, you must check "This device requires a..." checkbox on Audio tab, and select the sound card and input line from the drop-down lists.

If no, you must uncheck that checkbox.

If the checkbox is checked, and correct device and line are selected, and you still get sound, try right-click in video window and find TV Options -> Devices submenu. The submenu lists TV tuner devices followed by audio capture devices. Experiment with choosing a different audio device.

Radio tuner is not supported.

Hi, and thanks, but no go.

I have tried plugging the audio link into every socket, and setting every single driver, and link, and crossbar, etc., there is.  I have reinstalled updated drivers for both sound card and TV card - still NO sound while watching TV.

Now a new problem, which may be related - if I record TV I do get sound in the recording (as I mentioned in my first post), BUT the sound lags behind the picture by as much as 10secs!  Now what?
