Still not working for me.  Should I try to re-install and see if that fixes it.??

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

How are you trying to connect? CD lookup? Individual track lookup?

Check your firewall, proxy settings, ISP etc.

Let me know your IP address if you can (and time) and I'll check to see if you are getting through.

try www.yadb.com to see if that works.

Yes www. yadb.com works when I enter it in IE or click on your link.

I originally started to do some analog recording of some LPs.  I have done this before with no problem.  The specific album in question is a Johnny River album Realization.  Pretty common LP which I would think is in the DB.   I searched on both the artist and the album names simultenously.  That is when I got the "failed to connect with YADB messsage"  Very repeatable tried it many times over.

Then I attempted to do some CD lookups.  Dark Side Of The Moon came up, so did BesT Of New Riders Of the Purple Sage, and also The Ventures Telstar and Out of Limits.

CD Lookup failed on a very common album Traveling Wilburys, and an obscure one The Legendary Joe Meek.

Time of lookups is about 8:45 central and IP is 192.168.0.103 currently.  I did several reboots during that time, and use DSL so I don't know if that will effect anything.

I have also disabled my WXP SP2 firewall to see if that would help but it did not make any difference.

Based on the common albums that have failed to return any info, is it possible that you may have a bad HD and some of the records in the DB are not accesssable?  Just a novice guess.  I really don't know to much about this sort of stuff compared to you guys.

As an experiment I just entered Pink Floyd, Dark Side of The Moon in the Artist and Album fields of the sound Recorder and clicked on Tracks button and then Search Internet to see what would happen.  Got the failed message again but when I cleared the message and opened the Albums Found drop down box there were lots of Dark Side Of the Moon entries.  So I selected one and then I got the Failed to connect to the YADB server message again.  Time 9:14

Very Strange, CD lookup worked but manual lookup for the same album using sound recorder couldnt find the same common album.

Something very goofy here.  BTW lookup in sound recorder used to work fine in the past.  Now it doesn't work at all.  Could something in my system be corrupted?  Do you think a re-install of Media Center 10 would cure this?

I just noticed the IP address on my posts.  Why is the address that I find in XP different?  Is it because I have a D-link router between the computer and the DSL phone line?  and how do I find my real address if that is the case?

just testing to see if I can see an different address

Ok it stayed the same as the last post.  So I guess it changes when I re-boot xp.  currently
69.210.32.173 for the last 2 posts and when I was experimenting.

There's a bug in the analog recording lookup, I must have introduced it recently. I think I fixed it, give it a try.

The IP address you posted (192.168.x.x) is a not routable address used behind your DSL connection. It gets translated into a "real" address at the DSL box. Google NAT (network address translation) for more info.

Yes! sound recorder now works fine.  Still cant find cd lookup of The Traveling Wilburys though.  That was a very popular album.  Dylan, Petty, Orbison, Harrison, and Jeff Lynne.  can't understand that.

Spent most of the evening ripping some albums that were not in the DB.  I found the routine to submit the information to the YADB to be very buggy and unpredictable.  The feature to automatically allow you to enter the information only comes on screen ocassionally in an unpredictable manner, and I cant get it to come up at all when I right click on the album name in Drives and Devices.  For some reason the program seems to just stall like it is looking in the DB but nothing happens.  Usually I have to wait a 1 to 2 minutes and then if it doesnt time out on it's own I have to suht MC down and restart.  Very Very Buggy.  Good news is that the sound recorder lookup seems to work now.

Does Auto INsert notification in widnows need to be turned on to make the YADB lookup functions work properly?  I keep my auto insert notification turned off in Windows, because often I dont want any actions performed when I insert a disc.

Hello there,

I also seem to have the same problem. I can no longer connect to the YABD server. I have ripped many CD's before with no problems, but as of last week it does not work. This is the error message I get:

Action: Failed
Status: Failed to connect to the YABD Server

Further information:
*Yes, I can see www.yabd.com
*All other actions on the internet outside Media Center works fine.
*I have a firewall, but tried to connect to YABD with the firewall disabled and it still didn't work. (I use a Norton Firewall and the WinXP standard firewall is always switched off)
*The equivilent CD details database for Windows Media Player works fine, but I do prefer to use the J River Media Center
*The only change to my system in the last few months was two weeks ago I upgraded to IE7. Could this have caused the problem?

Of note, another part of Media Center doesn't access the Internet properly. I can no longer check for updates: The error message:

"Failed to connect to a server",
"Reason: Unkown"

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

IE7 does cause problems with MC11.1 if your version is more than about two weeks old.  Please try the version from this board.

I'm still using IE 6.0.2900.2180 SP2 and MC 10.0.

But YADB never gave me any trouble before, and I haven't changed anything in my system that should effect lookups.

I also have no problems using the internet for all other apps.

Update..............

I just tried The Traveling Wilburys cd that "failed" yesterday and now it is working fine.    I am not going to question success, just glad it works again.  Thanks!

Thanks JimH. The problem did seem to be an older version of MC11.1 and IE7. I updated MC11.1 to the latest build and the YADB seems to work now.

cheers

Perhaps I am just getting too old for this at 69 years of age.  It has been a long time (probably about 10 years) since I have used Media Center to record.  I have a bunch of old analog cassettes that I am recording using the sound recorder feature.  But once again after I enter the artist name, and the name of the album, and then I click the "Search Internet" button to connect to YADB I get "No Matches Found"  (I am searching for the album Genesis by Genesis which is not obscure by any means).

Is there some reason, that again, (this has happened a few times long ago) I am having problems with YADB.  I am still using the same system XP SP3 but now have to use Firefox V50.0.2 due to no longer support for IE in XP.

OR:  IS there some major change that now causes MC10 to not be compatible with YADB?  At my age it is hard for me to upgrade and learn new software (I am a strong believer in "if it ain't broke; don't fix it)  but if that is the only route to take then I guess I will have to bite the bullet.

Please let me know why I can't connect to YADB.

I don't know if it is a problem with MC10, but if it is, we won't fix it.  It's been a long time since it was in development.

Recent versions don't have recording capabilities.

Have been having a slowdown in accessing the online database for CD info for a week now. After JRiver starts to access metadata the program goes into the circular hold mode and will take 2 ro 3 minutes before moving on. The popup window that used to appear showing metadata choices no longer appears. Have made no changes to the computer and the same problem appears on two windows computers at the same home. Am getting ready to re-rip a number of CDs and need to speed up the process. ANY IDEAS? JRiver is a great program and have been using it for 6 years now.

I am having issues with the YADB database as well. I have a dedicated Windows XP system for Netremote and MC 11.1 and have not had to touch it in years. All of a sudden I can't connect to the database when I go to RIP a new CD.  What has changed and can this get fixed?

It's this: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,117123.0.html

But AFAIK, Bob said YADB should be working again.

I just popped a CD MC hadn't seen (not in CD Database) into the drive and MC found the metadata such as Year, Genre, Artist, Album Artist, Track Names and numbers, etc. All of that is coming from YADB, because very little is actually on the CD. I wasn't sure about that, but checked by ejecting the CD, deleting the CD from the MC CD Database, then disconnecting my PC from the network, so it couldn't look anything up. MC popped up the "CD Information" data entry dialogue asking for data about the disc to be entered. When I reconnect, click "Update from online database" all the information reappears.

Note though that when I first popped the CD in MC didn't find any Cover Art, but running "Get from internet" found the art no problem. That is because MC gets the Cover Art after completing the rip, not when the CD is first inserted. When I deleted the Cover Art and the CD from the CD Database and started again, actually ripping the CD, Cover Art was found as expected.

So my conclusion: The YADB is working fine at present.

I tried to look up the new Steve Perry CD and it failed to connect to the database for track info.  Again I am still using MC V11 as I am using Netremote as part of my whole house audio system.  It would be nice to see the cover art fixed as well but I limp along but the track info is much more important. Maybe it was down for maintenance. My new CD purchased are few and far between these days so not sure when I will test it next.
