Ac3 doesn’t work – I tried really hard.
« on: August 27, 2006, 11:28:34 am »

I installed ac3filter but I’m not able to get it running after a full Sunday. I tried also to find some topics here – sorry for my prob I don’t find some.

System:
Xp-sp2
MC 11.1.191 registered
Soundcard: Creative Audigy 2ZS Premium.

Is there someone who can answer how to do step by step?
I have some ac3 files 2 and 6 channels and I want like to get it out over SPDIF to my DD-Receiver Yamaha DSP Z9.

Many thanks in advance.

This one might be more directly applicable.  It also doesn't require you to wade through a bunch of non-relevant posts about CODECS you likely don't need.

Basic answer?  Get FFDSHOW from here and be done with it.  AC3Filter 0.70b only handles certain specific AC3 file types (and I'm not positive that it includes plain vanilla .ac3 files -- you might need AC3file, as opposed to the filter app, for that).  The newer version is more capable, but apparently it is still alpha and there are problems with it (mostly SPDIF output related).

FFDSHOW just works generally.  If not, I'd check out AC3File mentioned above (but it too is still alpha).

Dear all, thanks for your informations.

As I am a newbee all this things are like chineese. ?

I tried both threads with the same results. I can not find any filter or native play back in MC.
I just get a scrathing noise - like PCM output.

So there is no help for persons which one are not so firm in this things.

I just want like to get my DD audio files to my DD receiver. DVD works perfect.

Best regards to all which one like to help me. :)

It may be difficult to find a way to pass through unaltered AC3 audio files to an external decoder. If the audio chain makes any changes to the stream then the decoder cannot detect the files correctly and the receiver uses PCM mode. Video files that have an AC3 audio track are much easier.

In this thread I explained how I was able to play AC3 audio files after wrapping the files in Matroska containers: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=26055.0

Also, I can pass through 44.1 kHz 5.1 DTS audio files that are in a wave container (ripped in wave format from DTS audio CDs). These files have the .wav filename extension and MC doesn't find them any different from PCM wave files that are ripped from standard audio CDs. I just need to make sure that the audio chain is bit perfect so that the receiver can correctly detect the format.

No I came the solving of the problem closer.

I did not know that I have to add the filters in the DSP-Studio/Direct Host.
Now I add it, but if I want like to activate a filter in the right window I always get a message:

List index out of bounds (0).

What does this mean?

Hi all, I can’t solve my problem with playing ac3 files.
It is funny; the creative player works excellent with them. This means the files are ok. ;)

I did a lot of work, reading a lot of your threads and my finger are frozen from googling. :o
I installed windows with all updates totally fresh - no other programs or codec’s installed. I installed the latest MC and also the dsp studio for direct host. Afterwards I made an image with acronis, so I can reset the system to new within 5 minutes. This means I can try all your proposals without crashing the system. ;D

I tested the following filters and codecs
AC3 filter
ffdschow
3ivx
matroshka
Intervideo
Codec Pack Nastaveni
DC-DSP
Steinberg Wave

Once I got an ac3 file playing thru MC but just as normal stereo sound. Using different filters I got sometimes this zzzzzKkzzzKkkkZZZ PCM sound.

You see I’m out of any ideas :'( :-[

Who is willing to explain what I made wrong and is able and patient to help me. Otherwise I have change to Creative Player :'( - which one I doesn’t like.

Email conservation is also very welcome madtiroler@gmail.com.

Many thanks in advance

TBL

p.s. normally I’m not such stupid – honestly. :-[
