ALMOST there with D-Link DSM-120 w/ MC 11.1
« on: August 31, 2006, 02:22:08 pm »

Hello, I am ALMOST there with a D-Link DSM-120 w/ MC 11.1

The D-Link sees the network, updated to the latest D-Link firmware.  The D-Link can find my Laptop, which is running Media Center 11.1

When I configured the UPnP Server, Media Center can see the D-Link, though it thinks it is a DSM-320.

The D-Link remote allows me to scroll through the menus of music on my laptop but it does not actually PLAY.

The requests from the remote / D-Link 120 are displayed in the Media Center 11.1's window onto the UPnP Server activity.  see below.  But the music does not play.. nor does the music seem to be counting down LCD display of the D-Link 120.

Here is an example of what shows up in the MC 11.1 UPnP Server window....

08/31/06 15:08:05 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.37 starting...
08/31/06 15:08:06 - UPnP Media Server Device started on port 1044
08/31/06 15:08:06 - Running
08/31/06 15:08:07 - Autodetected: DLink DSM-320

08/31/06 15:10:33 - Sharing (without conversion): C:\Test Music\Béla Fleck - Drive - 03 - Up And Around The Bend.m4a
08/31/06 15:10:33 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 15(Audio\Artist/Album\Bela Fleck\Drive)
08/31/06 15:10:33 - Received request for file: C:\Test Music\Béla Fleck - Drive - 03 - Up And Around The Bend.m4a
08/31/06 15:10:34 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 15(Audio\Artist/Album\Bela Fleck\Drive)
08/31/06 15:10:34 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 15(Audio\Artist/Album\Bela Fleck\Drive)

In the Options I have tried "Don't Convert Audio" and "Convert Audio if Necessary".

I bet there is something simple that I am not doing.

Any wisdom or tips to share here?  /Daniel

M4A files probably won't work since MC needs to play them with QuickTime.  Can you try a different format (as a test)?  MP3 or WMA, for example.

Great Support - MP3s work perfectly w/ D-Link.

Thanks Jim.

Great Support -  MP3s work perfectly w/ D-Link DSM-120.

Are there any possible tricks to being able to us Media Center play iPod M4a files, like loading QuickTime 7.1 and loading it... (or is the QuickTime 7.1 Pro version required) ... or some other such work around?

I am interested in discussing an OEM licence for JRiver Media Center for a small high end audio client of ours.   Jim, will you or a colleague send me a private mail message?  Thanks  /Daniel

Daniel,
I'm glad to hear it's working.

You may be able to get a Directshow filter working for m4a files.  I think they are aac.

You could write Peter Sohal.  He's peter @ jriver.com.

Thanks.

I have the same d-link machine and want to play lossless from flac - but the only UPnP encode options I see are MP3 or Ogg.  Is it possbile to use the mp3 -> "custom commandline switches" to pipe through something other than LAME, to get wav sent to the d-link renderer?

Hugh, I don't think so, and even if you managed to do it, you might not get the effect desired. The reason we only support a couple of transcoding options is that those encoders don't need to rewrite header info after encoding the whole file. Other encoders do.
