1. NEW: Middle mouse button smooth scrolling is supported in file lists and the left navigation pane.

Click the middle mouse button, then move the mouse down a little.  The screen scrolls very slowly.  Move it up, etc.

Cute, huh?

With really long lists of thumbnails, it was too hard to scroll smoothly.  One pixel on the scrollbar turned into 20 or 100 pixels in the list since it was so long.

This fixes that.

The icon in your screenshot doesn't look like the one we're trying to show.  Is it possible your mouse driver / software is being too ambitious?

doesn't work for me either.
I checked my mouse driver in control panel.
The default option for a middle mouse button click is "next window".
There are dozens of options to choose from.
Is there a specific one that should be selected to be compatible with this feature?

I've got a logitech mouse. My screenie is from wmp (where it does work) and the cursors look like they do there because there is both a left-right and an up-down scroll bar.

if I middle click on this page, which is up-down only, it looks like so:

Works for me. Cool! Very smooth too.

Also works fine with my Gyration RF mouse.

It works on a dell mouse hooked to a gateway computer with a left and a right button, and the center button is a wheel.

not sure who makes the mouse.

I just tried this in Detail view and it scrolls very fast (too fast).

If it isn't working, try disabling your "extra" mouse software.  It may be fighting with us.

Also, try scrolling in the tree.  Since this isn't a windows control, the mouse driver will likely leave it alone.

Works best in tree. Scroll rate completely adjustable by position of mouse, from slow to very fast.

Details view: Scroll starts pretty fast and goes very fast. "Joystick" movement (up/down/left/right) works well.

Thumbnail view: Scroll starts slow and speeds up some , but not nearly as fast (by a factor of 3 or 4) as Details view.

Transition from down to up very smooth in all views.

Thanks for the heads up.  We're keying off the standard middle mouse button down event, so this makes sense.

This seems to be a fast and easy way to scroll vertically, but horizontal scrolling is slow on my PC. The right and left scroll arrows on the bottom scroll bar are much faster. The middle scroll thumb is the fastest. I have 53 columns in many of my detail views so I do a lot of horizontal scrolling.

I scrolled the view horizontally between the screenshot slices. I am so comfortable with using the horizontal scroll bar that I don't normally use the Tag Info window at all.

I have a few more now.
