Convert MP3 to AAC (iPod Nano)
« on: September 09, 2006, 10:16:53 am »

Am I missing something or is MC11 not able to convert audiofiles from MP3 to AAC ?
Does anyone know the answer or do I have to use iTunes to convert ??

Best regards, Jacob

MC doesn't encode to AAC.  There may be a way to use Quicktime as an external encoder (MC supports use of an external encoder).  You could try a google search.

But converting from MP3 to another lossless format will lose a little quality.

Just curious, why do you want to convert an mp3 to aac? My ipod Nano plays mp3's just fine. I wouldn't want to convert a lossy file if I didn't have to.

I wan't to do it just for the compression ...
My MP3 collection are ripped Lame VBR's by EAC (app. 200 kbit).
By encoding it to AAC (128 kbit) I get 35% more space ...
And by what I wrote on the internet the 128 AAC is better then the 128 MP3.

Or am I wrong ??

I think there is some discussion of AAC encoding on this forum. Do a search on the forum to find the thread.

That's only if you're starting from scratch. Converting an MP3 to AAC will most certainly result in a degradation of the audio. However, the severity is totally subjective.

If you really wanna gain the space, RealPlayer 10.5 will convert from MP3 to AAC "on the fly" as it transfers to the nano.  I don't recommend this, however.

Yeah well, what can I say ??
I've listened to both versions of several numbers form Pearl Jam on my "State of the Art" Headset from Sony (MDR-V700), and to be honest: I could not hear the difference ...

And the quality of the ripped MP3's are really excellent !!

But anyway, Nobody so fare has given me the answer: where can I find that decoder ?

As I posted in that other thread, the suggestions there didn't work for me. I have resorted to loading my audiobooks in iTunes and converting to m4b's there.
