track not sorted correctly
« on: October 01, 2006, 03:33:29 pm »

Hi,

I got 2 mp3 tracks in 2 different albums that are not sorted correctly. All tracks in those albums are in order, but those are listed at the bottom. I tried erasing all tags, deleted it from the db, reimported them, I set tag info using other programs but nothing helps. These tracks are always listed at the bottom of the list, out of order while the rest of the album is sorted correctly.

I ran out of options trying to fix this, if anyone has any tips or suggestions, do share.

Thx.

Hmm... this needs a bump :)

I forgot to mention, any other program I tried sorts the tracks correctly.

I realize its a minor issue, but its annoying nonetheless.

needs more info...

are they the same filetype as the rest of the album?
are they in the same directory as the rest of the album?
have you run the 'clean file properties' tool over the problem files? If not, try it. Make sure to select the options to remove leading and trailing spaces, and to convert double to single spacing.

if you click on the 'track #' column header to force a sort by track #, do they fall into the correct order?

A:Yes

A:Yes, and I have used other tools as well to re-set the properties. Whenever I used another program, I deleted the file from MC database and reimported it.

Q:if you click on the 'track #' column header to force a sort by track #, do they fall into the correct order?

A:No, the complete album will be sorted correctly and this particular track at the bottom. Clicking again it will be on top with the rest of the album following in reverse order.

I have also tried resetting the database and reimporting only a small amount of files. These tracks remain unwilling to cooperate. I guess they are a bit like myself :)

I had similar problems with MC handeling cover art properly. Tried different solutions over a long period of time, to no avail. Since the problem files were ripped and tagged with another program, I assume this had something to do with my problem. I must say, however, MC did work properly with the majority of my files rippedwith another program.  I never did figure this out, but I did solve this problem by re-ripping and taging those file using MC.

InflatableMouse, could you do the following?

- Select one of the problem albums.
- Load the files in Playing Now. Use the wrong order you have in the audio view scheme.
- Select the problem track and two tracks before it.
- Select from the File menu: Export playlist > Format: MPL, Output Range: Selection and save the playlist.
- Open the resulting .mpl file in Notepad and copy-paste the contents here.

Perhaps someone could find a reason for this behavior from your library fields.

Check the disc numbers.

Very weird.

Its fixed and I'm thankful  :D

But its weird because I explicitly told MC in my view to sort on track only. Also, I cleared all tags more than once and even used other programs to reset tags. I have no clue were disk # would come from.

It is designed to take the disc numbers into account. Initially, when the disc number field was introduced the default sorting did this:

Track 1, Disc 1
Track 1, Disc 2
Track 1, Disc 3
Track 2, Disc 1
Track 2, Disc 2
Track 2, Disc 3
Track 3, Disc 1
Track 3, Disc 2
Track 3, Disc 3
etc ...

This was changed after getting some user feedback and now MC checks the disc numbers first.
