Is that the design or is this a workaround for a bug?  This is not what I would expect to do.

this is standard in this kind of fields. in sql or access etc it works the same.

I've got to agree... That's pretty standard.  Shift+Enter adds line wraps in most pro layout applications (InDesign, Freehand, Illustrator, etc) as well, when Enter accepts the field's contents.
